I suppose if Fleet Farm added a register and bought a little more liability insurance they could charge the same prices as Gander as well.

I did pay for the rifle and ammo at gander's firearms counter, were at fleet farm I had to use the main registers. If fleet farm added a cash register at the fire arms counter it might end this escorting stuff, tho the rule on not being able to buy a gun and ammo at the same time is just stupid, especially with people carrying with a permit.

I just bought a gun a Fleetfarm (Owatana) on Saturday, along with an extra mag, holster, and two boxes of ammo. Got escorted to the front counter, but that was expected.

No, he's one of a few vice-presidents, happens to be the vice president in charge of health care for the organization. The CEO is Stewart Mills Jr., his father.

I've bought several firearms at the Baxter Fleet Farm Pro Shop. No escorting, buy as much ammo as you want.

Hell, last time I tried to buy ammo at the Lakeville FF I couldn't buy it either, and I wasn't even buying a gun at the same time. It wasn't policy, exactly, unless you call "no decent ammo on the shelves" to be policy. :)

OK, I will stand corrected.
Still a pretty big cog. . .

I don't get the strib, does FF advertise much in that rag?

I've also bought a fair number of firearms from the pro shop in baxter, and ammo for it at the same time. They even let me use the classroom to field strip and clean my new purchase once, so I could go use it in the range.

Haven't bought firearms from the main store in many years, so I can't speak to their policies.

I was escorted out of Joe's Sporting Goods.

I bought some gun cleaning supplies from them, it is a nice place.

I'm sure the editorial staff in Duluth and Minneapolis is impressed with his libertarian ideals. Or, it could simply be that the advertising for Mill's businesses pays them 10's of millions of dollars each year.

Also worth noting that the strib was recently purchased by Glen Taylor, who is a pretty conservative guy. Perhaps he is making some changes with the general philosophy there? Wouldn't be terribly surprising to see turnover among the hyper-liberal members of the staff, only to be replaced by somewhat more "normal" folks under Glen's authority.

OTOH, they don't care if you're carrying a gun in their stores. They may escort you to the register with your new pistol purchase, but they aren't concerned about the one you're carrying on your belt.

It's also worth noting that Stewart isn't the Big Boss at Fleet Farm. He is a cog in a wheel there, and doesn't get the option to override the company's liability carrier at every turn. He's had a significant influence on Fleet Farm's approach to firearms sales, but he's not the last word on company operations and policies.

I believe he is the CEO. It's a privately held corporation. It's his call, ultimately.

Stewart's father is the CEO. Stewart Mills III (the candidate) is a VP at Fleet Farm. His father (Stewart Mills, Jr.) is the CEO.

As was I when I made a firearm purchase at Dick's. What an appropriately named store...
