Or it could turn into the next Colorado. Where people didn't seem too inclined to fight for their civil liberties until they were taken away. Once they realized the error of their ways the political ******* began resulting in a few politicians losing their jobs. Now they're stuck with an uphill battle, but at least their populace understands the ramifications of not being politically active. It will be interesting to see how mid terms go for CO tomorrow.

"Hidden consequences of Washington State's gun background check Initiative 594"

Let’s say a stalker is threatening a female friend of yours. She asks you if she can borrow
your handgun. She is trained and has no criminal record. Should you loan her your gun?
If you live in Washington State, loaning her your gun may soon make you a criminal and
will likely land you in prison....

"Billionaire gun grabbers get their way"

Five billionaires poured millions of dollars into promoting the nation’s toughest firearm background check law in Washington state and rung up a big success for gun control.

Voters in Washington handily approved the ballot measure....

Can't even let your friend shoot your gun at the range as that's deemed a transfer. This is a VERY bad law. And the opposing referendum failed.

This is the same model legislation they tried here...nearly verbatim. You loan a friend a firearm at the range, even though you're standing right there...boom, criminal.

Your buddy gets deployed, you hang onto his guns for him....boom, criminal.

Your brother in law is moving...throw his guns into your safe for a few weeks...boom, criminal.

Its ridiculous and its sold under the guise of "common sense".
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

It seems to me that Washingtonians may be able to "get around" temporary transfers that are described above by creating a trust, and transferring their firearms into that trust.

With a revocable living trust created to own a persons firearms, any trustee or successor trustee can lawfully be in possession of any NFA weapons it contains. If I make by buddy a trustee of my trust, he can be in possession of any SBRs, Machine guns, etc. the trust owns without completing a BATFE form 4 application to transfer a firearm. The trust still continues to own the firearm, and any trustee is authorized to be in possession of the trusts property. As the grantor of the trust, I can add and remove trustees by simply modifying my trust documents, and then having it re-notarized.

If this process works for title II firearms (NFA), there should be no problem doing the same for title I firearms.

It's an additional pain in the a$$, but there are ways that a person can set things up where they can continue to loan firearms to friends and family. It won't solve all of the problems created by this new law, but it can solve some of the more common ones being described.

Either the NRA FU'ed really bad by not spending $5 million on TV ads. Or, . . . they figure they can milk gun owners for a decade as they "fight" off these proposals everywhere. After 9 years on the NRA Board, I believe either could be true.
