Is the California anti-gun legislation important to me?

Postby 2in2out on Fri Jan 08, 2016 7:11 pm

I keep getting e-mail solicitations from a couple of pro-2A groups trying to stop anti-gun legislation - or bring suit against existing laws - in California. They want my money. Is there a compelling reason I should give them any?

Seems like my money is better spent locally, but I'm concerned that if they can do all sorts of mean things to the good people of California, that will give them inspiration to try their stupid tricks elsewhere.

The ones in my inbox right now are from:
firearmspolicy.org
fpcsadc.org

But, I seem to recall others that I've deleted recently.

Haven't heard of those two before, but according to whois.net, both domains are owned by a Brandon Combs out of Roseville, CA.

I'd stick with NRA, 2AF, GOCRAMN, MNGOPAC and the gun owners caucus.

I get them also as I donated to help stop their lead ban but now they can deal with their own issues.

One does wonder where they got your email address. I'd hate to think that GOCRA, or MNGOPAC, or GOC, or NRA are sharing or selling their mailing lists.

If you want to help California, stick with Calguns Foundation https://www.calgunsfoundation.org/ and the Second Amendment Foundation https://www.saf.org/ They are the ones filing the lawsuits against the unconstitutional laws passed there.

MNGOPAC or The Caucus does not sell your information.

There are groups like National Association for Gun Rights, and their affiliates ( "Minnesota Gun Rights") that extensively sell list information. All you may have done was sign a petition or join a giveaway.

GOCRA did have a data breech of its paypal donors, so that could be a possibility as well. (Though if that was the source, I'd expect many more Minnesotans woild have received the same thing)

The MN Gun Owners Caucus and MN Gun Owners PAC do not share your data or information, or share or sell our mailing lists.

It's not hard to find data on people that "might" be gun owners. Magazines like 'guns and ammo' sell their mailing list data, conservative voter groups sell their data, conservative politicians sell their data (particularly after leaving office), and so on. All of this can be purchased and combined with other data to paint a picture, and so on.. you get the picture.

Hope this helps -

Good to know, and I appreciate that level of respect.

I don't know if the NRA sells their member data. I sincerely doubt it, but the volume of SPAM that they generate is prodigious by itself - they don't need help from anyone to clog my inbox.

If you've ever bought a hunting or fishing license - EVER...in ANY state....they've got your info.

In 2012, MN made hunter information private data, FWIW.

We tried to buy or lease the NRA data - it's not available to our knowledge.
