Since when do the dems care about the Constitution? They see it as an obstacle that must be overcome rather than the rule of law. The truth is that they need these urban war zones for votes and to promote their causes. It was either Eric Holder or Slick Willie who said that we need a low level of "gun violence" to keep the fires burning.

Yeah, right. Find that quote for me, please, so we can move out of the realm of anecdote.

Pragmatically, I don't think they how to do it without alienating their constituency.

Were that true, we would have long ago experienced uniform enforcement of standing law.
Instead we get selective application of ever-encroaching regulation. The law abiding suffer while a select few continue their violence and mayhem.

Feel free to speculate as to the motivation behind such governance.

Ditto. Anyone who values freedoms needs to quit listening to the rhetoric they are force fed about social justice, public schools, children, health care, women's rights (abortion and contraception), race relations, the plight of the poor and other issues that the dems are pontificating about. They take the self righteous sanctimonious moral high ground and demonize all who do not comply. That is why democrats continue to get elected both statewide and nationally. Everyone is afraid of being called derogatory names like sexist racist bigoted islamophobic homophobes and no one will stand up to these liberal bullies :o :o :o So that is how you get Hillary Clinton, Mark Dayton, Al Franken, Aunt Betty McCollun, Keith (the first muslim elected to congress) Ellison, Amy Klobuchar and Barack Hussein Obama.

Hillary will make Dick Nixon look like Mother Theresa and you folks won't care because the big bad Republican was stopped.

The problem with gun crime in the big cities is that unless you started hanging every felon found illegally possessing a gun, there's simply no way to deal with it. If the police really wanted to, they could round up thousands of people illegally holding firearms, but the criminal justice system is so overloaded the gun laws are only used as a pile-on for someone arrested for more serious offenses. The prisons are full, and in any event a mere time out is no longer a strong deterrent to the hardcore criminals. The one thing that does deter them is when an intended victim points a gun at them.

Quite recently, in St Paul, there was a murder (execution style, as it was described). One of the parties arrested was a young male, who had been previously convicted of murder and was back on the street.

That might be a place to start that we could manage.

3 charged with murder in execution-style slaying by Summit-U auto parts store

Two years after a man completed his sentence for a St. Paul murder, authorities say he killed again — this time in an execution-style shooting.

Renaldo Terez McDaniel, 31, died June 12 in the parking lot of O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on Lexington Parkway near University Avenue in St. Paul. The Ramsey County attorney’s office charged Daryl Negel Curtis, 35, and two women Friday with second-degree intentional murder.

In 2000, half a mile from where McDaniel was killed, Curtis fatally shot a 28-year-old man without provocation at a party. He was sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison and was released in 2014.

About two weeks ago, when McDaniel was looking under the hood of a car with a relative, a “man noiselessly approached them from behind and without warning” shot him several times, according to the criminal complaints. The complaints describe Curtis as the shooter and says McDaniel was in the midst of “an ongoing dispute” with three men, one of whom is Curtis’ first cousin.

+1

And, Franken is just toeing the company line. I think he's trying to move up.
