"Targeted" the movie

Postby Ironbear on Tue Sep 13, 2016 7:20 am

Looks interesting.
On September 29, Targeted: Exposing the Gun Control Agenda will appear in theaters nationwide for one night only. The movie not only exposes the agenda behind the gun control movement but also the importance of freedom and the way that freedom rests on the pro-gun heritage handed to us by our Founding Fathers.
The filmmaker behind Targeted is Jesse Winton, a 22-year-old man who was only 20 when he made the film out of concern that his generation was losing touch with America’s history and all the lessons that that history holds for us regarding America as framed by the Constitution.

One night only with very limited distribution.
One has to ponder the movie's intentions. Is it to make money (which would be ok)? Is it to raise politcal awareness (in time for the election)? I don't think BOTH goals can be accomplished.

If money is their priority, we will see this limited release and then some DVD distribution, months down the line. It's usually 5-6 months after theatre release. Not in time to make a political difference during the most important election in our lifetime.

If it's to raise awareness, and they are willing to forsake profits, then this should be given a chance in theaters and then immediately released to a free, on demand platform. Perhaps even YouTube.

It seems pretty bizarre to me.

It's a double header, though it's not very clear about it. The first half is the documentary, and the second half is a (prerecorded?) debate between both sides of the issue, including people formerly involved in the Brady Campaign as well as the NRA. It says the run time is 100 min, I can't find how it's split up.

The director is Jesse Minton, now 22, son of Randy Minton, the produced. The both of them are in a gospel folk music band together. The father is the owner of a lawncare business. The last film produced by Wintons Motion Pictures is called Rescued about adoption and orphans.

The other name on the film poster is KAOS Connect, from Denver. They seem to be into "transforming ordinary content into extraordinary experiences through LIVE, interactive events." I'm guessing they're the one's who are promoting it as a "Town Hall event."

It is independent and a political documentary, which has a low chance of landing in a theater in the first place. The theater owners probably were talked into it, wanted to show it, or were willing to give it a try; but aren't interested in giving it a full place in their line-up.

I fear it may be a case of preaching to the choir. I doubt it will shift many people from the other side of the fence. Phrases like "a master plan to shift this country into socialism" (even if it's true) will cause most to instantly file it under "alt-right paranoia".

Sadly, if it's a matter of culture wars we've already lost the mainstream, perhaps decades ago. The faux-pacifist propaganda that weapons = aggression has been pushed since at least the Vietnam War, and is 180 degrees opposite the concept of armed deterrence. There simply is no bridging that cultural divide; and already guns owners are being dismissed as troglodytes incapable of seeing the "obvious" moral truth- as willfully blind as Antebellum southerners defending slavery.

The only bright spot is that although our government has never been more opposed to gun ownership, the people have never been more in favor of it. But gun rights is definitely surviving primarily as a grass-roots movement, having to fight well-organized efforts at propaganda and imposed mandates every step of the way.
