Bloomington planning commission

Postby jdege on Fri Oct 28, 2016 11:17 am

Just got an email alert from GOCRA - it seems the Bloomington Planning Commission just passed a zoning rule that would effectively ban gun stores in Bloomington.

Should come up for a vote at the next city council meeting, November 20.

Anyone know what gun stores are in Bloomington?

Do we have anything in place to provide them support in the lawsuit?

Would the knowledge that we're organizing an effort to help fund the lawsuit help convince the city council to not approve this rule?

I have my doubts they really care about your threats of a lawsuit...

There's a PDF here that shows the location of all FFL holders in the city in the documentation from the city:
http://meetings.bloomingtonmn.gov:8080/ ... elect=3135

Other than Atomic Tactical I'm not aware of any other gun stores in Bloomington but perhaps there are others. I suspect several FFL holders are pawn shops and some might be home based.

Citizens are already suing over garbage pickup rights.

I'm not aware of any lawsuit.

Could you post the GOCRA alert? I didn't get it.

Jeffrey --

Earlier this month, it was the City of Savage that tried to use zoning laws to severely restrict gun shops and other firearm related businesses in the city.

Now it's the City of Bloomington.
Tonight, just as we were being made aware of this situation by an alert supporter, the Bloomington City Planning Commission passed a proposed ordinance restricting gun shops, ranges, and other firearms related businesses from almost the entire city.

The new restrictions should establish "safety buffers" around residential areas, churches, daycares, schools, other gun shops, and on, and on.

Their proposed restrictions are even MORE RESTRICTIVE than the City of Minneapolis, where gun shops are essentially BANNED.

It passed on a 5-0 vote.

A small handful of residents were present and praised the planning commission for making their communities safer.

But we still have a chance to STOP THIS ORDINANCE at the upcoming City Council Meeting on November 20th in Bloomington.

We need your help.

No matter where you live, can you e-mail and call each member of the Bloomington City Council right away and let them know you're opposed to their attack upon our constitutional rights?

Then, block your calendar for the evening of November 20th and make plans to attend the upcoming City Council meeting.

Bloomington started this a long time ago with what they call " the pawn shop ordinance" that prohibits the display of used guns for sale. If you have the time and interest search the Bloomington City Code for all the ways they restrict firearms, air guns, archery and similar items.

Kinda sounds like Coon Rapids. The pawn shops here do not have any guns on display, but if you ask, they give you a catalog with descriptions of what guns they have and maybe some photos. I never asked to physically see one, so I have no idea how they actually handle a sale.

i'm surprised that Bloomington hasn't been overwhelmed by the crime wave coming from three blocks away at metro pawn and gun

I saw this news report today.

The city counsel is meeting at 7 p.m. on the 21st (this Monday).

As usual, nice job by Rob explaining why this is foolishness.

Terrible result last night. Anyone know when it goes into effect? Aka when do the poor guys at Atomic Tactical have to leave the city?
