Valerie Jarrett is a delusional moonbat.

Anything thing she says should be considered in that context.
I will never apologize for being an American.

A staple of the Liberal Mantra is that you should not blame the victim. Sounds like that is exactly what they are doing. Typically, they missed several points.
Deo Adjuvante Non Timendum - (with the help of God there is nothing to be afraid of)
Spectamur Agendo - (We are proven by our actions)

Having a gun doesn't make one a gunfighter any more than having a table-saw makes someone a master cabinet-maker/woodworker.

Just because HER relative didn't know anything about weapon retention and/or when to shoot doesn't mean that others won't or don't.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

This may be speculation on her part but if it's true this is the problem: "In an attempt to scare away the burglars, my grandfather pulled out one of his guns. They grabbed his gun, then shot and killed him".

"In an attempt to scare..." You only draw a weapon if you are willing to use it, any hesitation can or will get you killed.

The "attempt to scare" is also conjecture on her part. He probably intended to shoot the perp but was unable to complete the task.
