I watched it on CCTV from the viewing room, which was also full.
Other than the one knuckle-dragger, it was pretty predictable:
Facts, reasoning, statistics vs hyperbole, histrionics, a few very touching, emotional, and thoroughly irrelevant stories of tragedy, and a bit of urban theatre.
Robb Doer's opening remarks moved the ball way down the field

Rob Doar did an excellent job - as did all testifiers from our side.

The committee does not care about such things -- a majority will vote to move both bills forward.

But yes, we need more folks to turn out.

There has been a lot of media coverage on the hearings - TV and Radio. TV coverage I saw - local Fox affiliate- showed the NRA Representative and the guy whose daughter answered a Craigslist Ad for a Nanny and was shot with not a lot of commentary from the reporters and seemed to be more balanced than I would have thought and the radio - MPR - very much weighted to the Anti's although they did present the sound bytes from both sides, the commentary was slanted and weighted to the anti - not surprising.

Is there a post action News Release sent out to help the Media understand the position from the Pro Gun side? I think the Media can't help but let their bias take over, but they are pretty lazy, so they might be susceptible to having information spoon fed to them. I might be dreaming, so I understand that even with a Press Release, they could still drift Left into their historically Liberal lanes with or without the facts in front of them.

from what I saw it did look like the typical - Anti's appealing to the emotions because they lack data to support their fears and the Pro's using logic and facts.

Thank you to those who represent us so well. I am looking forward to a day when I can get more involved - until then, I'll keep contributing and would encourage those who can't "DO" to support those who "Do". Government is run by those who show up.

Regarding said provocateur, this is a new game, and I mean that in the most juvenile way possible, that so many people feel justified in mocking authority, public discourse and productive discussion of all kinds.

In spite of the trouble maker, it seems to have went well. Thanks to everyone who testified in favor of these two bills.

The whole session has one like, and one comment. There's no one getting any traction out of that load of crap but the groups patting themselves on the back for having done it. Very small ripple, if even enough disturbance to call it that. Posting it here is actually giving them more exposure than they had prior to the link being put up.

Subterfuge is an act of desperation.

More I think of it, I agree, we should move on. Don't engage a person/group who would stand in front of a legislative committee and lie.

The antis were trounced. I think the bills will pass.

Lol, had he used some sort of brain power he could have been subtle and possibly some would have listened. He went so over the top, all but the deranged would immediately dismiss him as a waste of time, energy, money, air, skin...

Is it just me or was the Maplewood chief very uncomfortable looking? Seems like a guy in charge of the coalition to squash our rights because it steps on their toes should be better spoken and prepared to give a strong statement to support their position. Then again, if Rob would've dropped the um's he'd have room for another 30 seconds of content and would come across stronger too.

When I first looked at the video it had 550 views. Now it's up to 3700.

Now the media is giving this richard head his 15 mn of fame:
Also an excellent response by Ben Rust

Capitol gun hearing speaker says lynching, other references were sarcasm - TwinCites.com

During a hearing on a pair of gun bills at Minnesota’s Capitol Wednesday, one speaker caused a commotion when he called for the return of lynchings in a racist tirade in ostensible support of one of the bills. Now he is saying it was satire....

Of everyone who got to speak, how do the numbers break down of pro and anti? Was the speaking time as packed by antis as the floor?

We deliberately minimized pro-testimony because we had the votes needed to advance legislation -- there were more anti speakers.
