Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Raymond Dehn Proposes Police Officers Be Required To Leave Their Guns In Cars

Minneapolis, MN – Raymond Dehn, candidate for Minneapolis mayor, is proposing police officers leave their guns in their cars, but says it’s okay for them to have nightsticks or pepper spray.

Raymond Dehn, who is also a State Representative, is running against current mayor Betsy Hodges in this fall’s election, according to Fox9.

He said, “Officers don’t need to carry guns on their person all the time…I’m not saying they don’t have access to that, just like they have access to more lethal weapons in their cars, I would believe they would still have access to their guns in their cars.”

In a statement from Friday, July 21, he said, “We must divest resources, disarm officers, and dismantle the inherent violence of our criminal justice system,”

His "disarm the cops" platform may just get him elected, after all it is Hennepin County.

"Dehn, 59, who grew up in Brooklyn Park, was convicted of felony burglary as a teenager in the 1970s and later pardoned by the governor. He is known for his work on behalf of felons, and believes the city should be more strategic in the way it polices itself."

“Crime is not a product of individual morality but the consequence of scarcity in our society. We must divest resources, disarm officers, and dismantle the inherent violence of our criminal justice system which continues to uphold white supremacy,” Dehn said in a statement Friday. “Our approach to public safety must reflect a belief that our communities are safer when they have housing, clean air and water, access to education and employment, and quality health care.”

We are talking about people who have no clue as to how law enforcement actually works. They expect law enforcement to be less about enforcement and more about social work - creating compassionate, understanding communities that we can all feel safe in - completely discarding the notion that there is inequality, income disparity, mental illness, basic human personality flaw, nefarious intentions etc. UTOPIA - Ducky and Bunny Rainbows of Pink Pony Poop. Hard to believe that anyone could issue a statement so naïve and so completely detached to the realities of the human condition. That person is truly a human to be frightened of and anyone buying into that load of horse pucky should be watched also.

The sad thing is that someone like Dehn is being even semi seriously considered for elective office.

From a sarcastic perspective how did he get paroled. He still believes in taking stuff from others because he wants it. Sound like the guy has really reformed, no?

If only in the sense that seeing the sky fall would be entertaining. I'd love to see this passed as a law and then watch as virtually the entire police force resigned rather than make stops unarmed.

If you read the linked article you would know that he is ALREADY an elected official.

So enforcing the law is white supremacy, and people committing crimes is everyone else's problem. Holy *********** crazy...he's perfect for a MPLS mayor! The only way to win is to be even more radical than Hodges. And liberals still don't understand why Trump won.

MikeTheCop did a very funny video a few days ago, and I think I saw it on Full30. Unfortunately, it looks like he took it down and replaced it with a more serious one, where he specifically mentions our Misguided Minnesotan. The first one had several scenarios where they fought armed criminals with rainbows and stuffed animals - it was in good taste (in my opinion), but quite amusing. A little bit of that was included in the more serious version.

Police don't need to be disarmed. They do a very important job, and need to be able to defend themselves. Here's a story about a officer trying to stop a man matching a suspicious person report, using only his taser. So glad he survived.
