"Assault Weapons" and Hi-Cap Magazines in circulation?

Postby INOR on Wed Nov 08, 2017 5:50 pm

What do you guys think there are for so-called "assault weapons" and hi cap magazines in circulation at present? I wonder if there's a reasonable estimate of this anywhere. Consider all the different variations of "assault weapons" like ARs, AKs, and every other potential model. And consider how many 30 and 20 rd mags there are out there.

Was thinking about this in the context of the senate dem's latest proposed ban on bump stocks, assault weapons, and hi cap magazines. Bill would outlaw sales, transfers, or possession of all new AWs and magazines but grandfather in existing weapons and magazines owned by private parties. Won't even make a dent when you think about the millions of weapons and hicap mags already in circulation. Think about all of the ARs out there alone. And all of the AR parts! Many enthusiasts have two or more fully-built ARs of different calibers, platforms, or purposes. And enough parts to build even more. And as for magazines....a lot of guys stock up on those and may have 20-30 or more magazines in their possession.

I have done my part to up the average, there’s a lot out there. AR’s seem to breed like rabbits.

Lol, many more. Missed that part. Rule of thumb is 10 mags per gun.

Hard to tell since Holder put so many AR's into the hands of bad guys. Of course not registered.

I have boxes full of A.R. Magazines.

I try to read them cover to cover before recycling to other readers now.
Will need to thin out the A.R. Magazines so I can replace them with AR Magazines.

I have my 20+ for AR-15 sized rifles, AR-10 I've only got 7 20 round Magazines and a bunch of M-14 mags I could convert by milling small window AR-style.

Did some googling. Some estimates ranging from 2 million to 5 million "assault weapons" already out there in the hands of private parties. I think that is a way low estimate and probably doesn't consider home builds.

As for mags, so a rule of thumb is ten mags per gun? I guess I know what i'm looking for in black friday sales!

Lower receivers have never been cheaper ($30-40). For folks who can’t afford to buy complete rifles, buying 2 dozen lowers is the same cost as buying an upper end AR. And since Feinstein’s new bill as of yesterday grandfathers ownership, but forbids transfers, these can make great stocking stuffers for a bunch of family members, including minors. Depending on the momentum of the bill over the next few weeks, will determine what I give away. My daughter and newphew May own dozens by the new year. I think there are 10’s of millions of AR/AK’s out there and an excess of 100 million magazines. At $10 each, its also worth buying them by the case. Since these will be for LONG term storage and use, I’d stick with aluminum/steel. I’d go as far as suggesting spending a few thousand dollars on lowers and mags for generational security.

There are many antis out there that think there are very few and that they wear out. I'm pretty sure they are right.

Lol. You would think that if you were buying that much in bulk, you would at least get a good deal on it!
