Caucus Event: 2020 Gun Owners Lobby Day

Postby bstrawse on Sat Jan 18, 2020 4:24 pm

We're going to be challenged again in the 2020 legislative session like we were last year.

Constant gun control hearings - short notice events - press releases attacking our presence - hostile questioning at hearings.

Unlike the last several sessions, we now have a strong anti-gun majority in the Minnesota House - and only two votes keep a mostly anti-gun faction from taking control in the Senate. On top of that, Governor Tim Walz campaigned on a strong platform of gun control and has promised to take immediate action once the legislature brings a bill to his desk.

Even bans on commonly-owned hunting and deer rifles.

Groups like Michael Bloomberg's "Everytown" and "Moms Demand Action" spent millions of dollars to bring their out-of-state funded anti-gun politics to the door of the Minnesota legislature. Hundreds of them showed up on the opening day of the session to scream and yell for new gun control laws.

It's time for law-abiding gun owners from across Minnesota to make their voices heard at the State Capitol.

At Gun Owners Lobby Day on March 4th, 2020 - you'll have a chance to meet with both your State Senator and State Representative and let them hear directly from you. You'll also be able to drop by Governor Walz's office and leave him a note expressing your opposition to his agenda of failed gun control strategies.

Why you should attend

Anti-gun groups and their activists will be at the state capitol multiple times during the 2020 session, just as they have been in year's past. It's critical that elected officials, even if they support gun control initiatives, hear directly from you as their constituent.

The Details: Where, when, and what will I be doing?

Gun Owners Lobby Day will be Wednesday, March 4th, 2020. You can arrive to lobby anytime between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.

We'll be at the Minnesota State Capitol Complex at 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd, Saint Paul, MN 55155.

Are anti-gunners showing up at the polls more, or are the Democrats getting elected on other issues and then "bundling" gun control into their platform? If Virginia is the wave of the foreseeable future- Democratic majorities or super-majorities in most of the states- then the future of gun rights looks dim. If supporters of gun rights fall to a perpetually outvoted 30% or less, then being theoretically in the right won't matter.

Bloomberg spent something like $3.5 million on state races in Virginia in order to flip the house - gun rights groups spent far less (we were outspent 12-14x here in 2016 and 2018, for example). There's an anti-Trump backlash that plays a role as well - and apathy plays another part.

We simply can't afford that in 2020.

Not showing up and not being engaged is not a good strategy.
