First debate

Postby Glenn_S on Tue Sep 29, 2020 7:41 pm

Hmmm...Joe is a skilled debater and is aware of the TV audience and speaks to them. He seems to be having a few mis-speaks, but no major gaffs yet.

Trump is being Trump.

I'm torn...I want Trump to hammer Joe, but looking at it from the low information voter view, Joe seems to be doing better. HOWEVER, those of us that have half a brain, see that he is overly prepped and likely has an ear bud in.

Thoughts?

As the night went by, it became obvious that Joe was listening to someone in his ear.

I honestly gave up on watching. I got tired of listening to the two of them talk over each other and the moderator. Not sure I can agree on Joe Biden being a skilled debater - I don't believe a skilled debater would fake laugh and roll his eyes that much, call his opponent a clown, or say things like "will this guy just shut up?" That's not to say that Trump is any better - he's still him.

“I’ve done more in 47 months than you have in 47 years”

“Name one, I’ll wait”

Biden asked for votes instead of answering the question on the Supreme Court, LoL

It was painful to watch. I wish Trump would have just acted professionally and kept to issues. Will this change many minds? No. But it certainly gives ammo to the folks who hate Trump and makes it harder to talk about real issues with people.

$#!t show.

Trump was taking the bait and getting ruffled.

Forum was BS.. there was supposed to be "open discussion" after 2 min answers but mostly $#!t-show with moderator interrupting and generally cancelling "open discussion" portion.

Yeah, all this did was to validate what each side thinks with no real breakthrough discussion on the issues. Joe dodged the hard questions and Trump didn't have a cohesive message.

What the moderator should have done is control the mics and cut off the person inturrupting so that they couldn't talk over each other. Then allow rebuttal in a more controlled manner.

Is anyone going to be swayed by these debates? Are there any undecided voters this year?

ETA: I can't imagine anyone watching that debate and deciding, that's the guy I want to vote for.

Neither one did themselves any favors by interrupting and talking over the other. Shows undisciplined behavior on both sides. Let one guy talk for his 2 minutes then refute him. It was a huge disappointment overall. A true debate has strict rules. I am surely not a Biden supporter but I fear Trump didn't do himself much good.

I agree that Trump did little for himself with his antics.
Conversely, the expectations of Biden's behavior were so low that merely showing up on the correct night, and not speaking in tongues might well have raised his stock.

With regard to Wallace's performance: His lack of control, and some pretty obvious bias - it's entirely arguable which of the three on stage won the race to the bottom.

Wish someone would just tell trump to STFU and learn to listen, then make his comment. This wind bag is ticking me off. Had to turn it off around 9, couldn’t stand it anymore. Time to put both in a glass box, a microphone and speaker, and let the moderator control the microphone.
