What I don't think was mentioned in the story was how the general shape/ configuration of the 3M mask came to be. It started, I am told, as originally a cold weather, breath warming mask, the idea stumbled upon by 2 guys grab-assing in a lab; one of them putting a bra cup on the other's face, and the rest, as they say is history.
How true that actually is, I cannot say, but it's been a legend on the east side of St Paul for 50+ years, where once half the population either worked for 3M, or lived next door to someone who did.
