'Strong evidence' shows rioters intended to 'capture and assassinate elected officials,'
prosecutors say

A court filing in the case of one of the accused Capitol rioters says “strong evidence” suggests that their intent was to capture and assassinate members of Congress.

The statement comes in a motion filed by federal prosecutors in Arizona, who are seeking to have Jacob Chansley detained pending trial. Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli, was seen wearing horns, a fur headdress and face paint during the riot.

Federal buildings will temporarily close in MN due to security threats TwinCities.com

Federal buildings, including U.S. District Courthouses in Minnesota, are temporarily closing because of security threats, officials announced Friday. And the FBI’s Twin Cities office is leading a 24-hour command post for law enforcement to share information.

There are not verified threats to the Minnesota Capitol, Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said Friday afternoon. He, Gov. Tim Walz and other officials updated Minnesotans about security concerns following the attack at the U.S. Capitol last week and continued threats to state capitols. . . .

. . .Harrington said they support the rights of people who want to exercise their First Amendment rights, but he emphasized that for anyone who comes to the Minnesota Capitol with criminal intent: “We will stop you, we will hold you accountable.”

Walz on Wednesday activated the Minnesota National Guard to protect the state Capitol. That followed a memo from the FBI Minneapolis field office warning of potential extremist threats to the Minnesota and Michigan capitols this Sunday. Harrington said information from the FBI was from late December and “there is no credible, local, immediate threat to the State Capitol at this time.”

It will be telling to see if there will be the same ''in-your-face' preparations as the trials of the cops accused in George Floyd's death unravel, and conclude.
If so, it will be a rather offensive affront to certain communities the left avoids offending.

I wonder what they will do if they find someone on capital grounds that went through the process ahead of time of notifying the cap police (since that makes it legal)

I'd thought that they'd removed the notification requirement a few years ago.

Michael Sherwin, Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said Friday that there is no “direct evidence” to suggest rioters planned to capture or assassinate lawmakers during last week’s deadly siege of the U.S. Capitol.

“We don’t have any direct evidence of kill capture teams,” Sherwin told reporters during a press briefing.
