Sorry for double posting.
Picture attached is one .30-06 hit from a M1 Garand at approximately 25 yards (dirtier looking upper hit) and one 5.56 hit from a 20 inch AR-15 at approximately the same range (shinier hit). Target has been painted white, and was suspended using fence wire from re-rod fence post, angled to deflect splatter down.
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. This is much MUCH closer range than is safe to fire at steel with rifles at, and this test was conducted via a weighted rifle sled, and me pulling the trigger with a string while crouching behind a mature tree that will (and has) stop .30-06 direct fire, never mind splatter. This was simply a test to test for myself whether or not these plates would withstand regular extended use in the fastest way possible.
The 5.56 was Federal American Eagle XM193, and the .30-06 was ИK 1957 headstamped corrosive boxer primed (if anyone knows where this is from, I'd like to hear it). Supposedly therefore, the 5.56 was going ~3150 fps and the .30-06 was going ~2800 fps, but neither of these figures are chrono verified.
Neither crater is more than a 1/32nd or so deep, the .30-06 impact in particular is hardly deep enough to feel compared to just scraping off the paint elsewhere on the target, and the 5.56 impact is more noticeable but still very smooth, and roughly equivalent to what .22 LR does to unhardened 1/4 inch scrap. Even if I were to abuse these targets in this manner on a regular basis, they would still remain serviceable for thousands of hits just like these.
Backing it up to my usual 200 yard shooting position, and I think these will last a lifetime.
I am satisfied with the product.
