WTB: 1 pair of Ruger "5B" scope rings or substitute

Postby jgalt on Sat Mar 06, 2010 2:18 pm

I need to replace the scope rings on my Ruger 77/22 in order to mount a larger scope. According to Ruger's website, I need one pair of the "5B" rings. I'm looking for one of the following:

1. Does anyone have a used pair they'd like to sell?
2. Does anyone know where I can find these locally?
3. Does anyone know if there are other rings that will work on my rifle? Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to determine whether or not there are other options available, or if I need to go with Ruger rings.

I'm in a North-East suburb, but for a good deal - new or used - I'll be happy to drive just about anywhere in the metro area.

Thanks!

I bought the Leupold rings made for the 77/22. They run from $50 to $60 and you can get them in "high" and "extra high" to fit almost any objective lens diameter.
They are also much "truer" than any of the cast Ruger rings will be. I have a friend who works at Ruger and he said the guys there call them scope wreckers because of the damage they can do to a scope. I lap in all of the scope rings on my rifles to ensure that everything is straight and true. Most rings take 5 to 10 minutes, Ruger rings take about 45 minute to an hour and your arm feels like it's gonna fall off by the time your done.
