I could point out that the Cherokee Defender is very similar to a Tucker HF1 or a Tauris Semi-High Ride well we're at it. (Jes saying)

As far as the 2n1 goes, that patern has been around for about as long as gun manufacturers have made pocket .22's, .25's, .32's and .380's.

I can see how the bolster on the front of the defender is about the same, perhaps a quick call would have Jayson change the shape of it and all parties can be happy then.

This is my last post, both on this thread and on this forum.

I no longer care what people do when it comes to intellectual property and how business is conducted with respect to it. If people want to buy our holsters, clone them, and call them their own, then that's their choice. I will no longer pursue those who choose to do so.

There's been a growing trend within the shooting industry to conduct business in such this way, and it's been supported/endorsed by those who choose to purchase products from those who do so. It seems that the perceived desire that they have to have it sooner, and at a cheaper cost in comparison to the original, has overtaken the common sense of the issue. So be it.

I'll just go back to being a no-name, don't give a dang, holster maker. Wish you all the best here.

If that is the case that is a poor way for an industry to conduct itself.

There is also a growing trend on the internet of people who are looking to create a situation for their own amusement.

If you are a genuine business person representing K&D holsters, then stick around and I am certain you will find many quality folks on this forum, many who will purchase your products. If you are the growing "trend" I mentioned, then I guess your post really is not so valid taken in that context.

I guess what I am saying, is give this community of gun nuts a chance.

Well, that was interesting. I know nothing about the ability and quality of the holsters made by the OP. I shall assume they are excellent. I tend to buy from http://rmholsters.com, but that is just me.

One thing I did learn though is what maker to not consider.

If you have a novel idea for anything that you do not want anyone to copy, PATENT it. You will have almost twenty years of protection. However, I would have doubts whether you could patent this particular holster.

The design not being patentable was exactly my point. I would suggest that the big guys blackhawk, safariland, ect. defend their patents to the extreme, however they also know what can not be patented and they accept that certain designs are so basic that knock offs are not only common they are expected.

Either invent and patent or your a copier at some level, let the whiner go.

+1 This thread may end up being somewhat educational but for the record, the way in which it has developed is stinky.

Holster design falls under that same level of development as say, claw hammers, comfy chairs, and window fans. They are such common items, that unless you are able to present something completely new, and completely provable as being new, trying to patent or trademark it is darn near impossible. I am willing to bet that all of us have a comfy chair somewhere in the house, it has been designed in a very similar manner for many many years, and many many people make them, Until someone like barcalounger or lazyboy came along with the recliners, no one had substantially altered the design for a few hundred years. Same with holsters, I have holsters that are 100 years old that I can show have similar design qualities to those being touted here.

The only recourse is not whining about it, but designing something new and improved that no one else have ever designed, Its like shoes, how many hundreds of thousands of styles of shoes are there? Unless you are able to prove a new design using new methods or materials, your just making shoes.

IF you start with something that you can trademark as an insignia of brand, say something like the Nike SWOOSH or the Levi's red tab, then you have something if people copy them, but look how many people make jeans that almost but not quite copy Levi's and you'll see, its not us being unfriendly,
