Here is a little tip - after you use your folder to dress game - soak that puppy in Hydrogen Peroxide then rinse it with regular WATER - then vlow it out with air and WD-40

That is it - I have SEVERAL Uncle Henry Trappers - real steel - and SHARP as hell and well, for the $$$ at the time they were the best knoves out there when they were made in Ellenville, NY - now they are made in China and I don't know if they are any good anymore.

I picked this knife up at the gun show last weekend, I have wanted a Damascus blade and Mammoth Ivory handled knife for a while. I saw this knife maker at the show and decided to get a new hunting knife. Is it the best :?: for now it's the best for me.

Mammoth Ivory, wow, that stuff must be in short supply. I would make the sheath a little more wooly to stay with the theme.

This is my pretty knife, also bought it at the gunshow a couple of years ago. It was made by an oldtimer by the name of Lowell Hegg. He makes all his knives from spring steel of old pickup trucks. The handle is higly figured Chechen wood. And yes, I'm never gonna gut a deer with it.

Why not use it, at least once.

6 inch blade, standard fixed blade Buck knife.
Not fancy, but a workhorse.
+ it's a classic.
And, only about $55.

(it's also the knife used in the movie "Scream")

I literally have been all over the world in the past 7 months and I have spednt a lot of time with My Cold Steel Tanto Voyager that I got from cold Steel at a show (Lynne Thompson) it was one of the shop models that they used to demo - it was well used and $20 - I took it home and worked on it a bit and it is a hell of a knife.

I am not thrilled with the tanto point at all - sometimes you need a good sharp point and a Tanto aint it.

As a tool for prying and impromptu improper use of a knife - it was beaten when I got it - and it has been beaten even more and still made it.... It is quite the knife and the steel is as hard as woodpecker lips but can be sharpened.

Probably the best kife is the one that you have with you! I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion with me every day it keeps a good edge and with one hand opening it is very convenient. However a Buck 110 Folding Hunter is hard to beat as an all around knife and don't worry about getting it all gunked up, just wash it with hot water, blow
it off with an air hose and a couple of drops of oil on the pivot points and it back to work with it. Buck has a lifetime warranty but you have to keep your reciept and all of the original paperwork.
Good luck in your search, just remember there is always room for one more good knife in the drawer.

If you want a good Laplander-style knife Brisa can't be beat. They have a variety of Nordic metalsmiths' blades to choose from (Andersson K, Lauri, Hankala), as well as a good deal of different handle materials.
Whatever you do, don't go with stainless, go with a high-carbon tool steel like 5160.

Check out some of the knives that have been made with Brisa materials:
