New Belt.

Postby rucker on Mon Jul 30, 2007 5:46 pm

I need a new belt that can hold up a holster. I can't always be borrowing one ;)

So, I saw these for $30 http://store.thewilderness.com/product_ ... ucts_id=35

I haven't made it to Streichers yet to check out what they have. From their website it looks like they sell belts that are basically the same thing.

Any advice?

Wilderness, Tucker Gunleather http://rlcompanyusa.stores.yahoo.net/index.html, Looper Leather http://www.looperleather.com/KydexBelt.html and The Beltman http://www.thebeltman.net seem to be the most trusted brands. I have the kydex re-inforced from Looper, you might also want to try our very own Srigs at http://www.sideguardholsters.com

The 5-11 belts that streichers have are close to the Wilderness but........... Wilderness are better IMHO for only a couple of bucks more.

Are the plastic inserts a good thing to have? Does that make them too stiff for comfortable wear? I will just have an IWB holster and maybe an extra mag.

My Looper looks and feels just like a dress belt. My understanding has always been that you want the belt as stiff as possible. The only things I have on mine are a holster with my G31 and cell phone and I've never had any problems with the belt not being comfortable, actually it's going to be more comfortable than carrying with a "regular" belt.

If I remember correctly the stiff belt (plastic insert) is designed to support the weight of a holster attempting to twist the belt most common in OWB. I would think you could get along with the regular one. The palstic lined ones are not uncomfortable, for the matter of fact I have not noticed a difference between my plastic lined and plain belts.

I bought a Galco belt a while back at Bills for $60. It is a very nice belt that holds my pants up as well as my holster :D
But mind you i have found a weakness for Galco as i dropped a lot of money on their leather products. But i have found you get what you pay for in the leather dept. I have a couple of Desantis holsters also for my M&P's and i love them :D They are so comfortable i foret they are there :D
Really i am your worst Nightmare, for i walk the night and the cover of darkness belongs to me :D

I have the insert in my Wilderness belt. It is as comfortable as any belt I have worn and more comfortable when carrying. It holds my Tac XD 45 much tighter against the body all day. No midday droop with an OWB and looks more natural with IWB. (No sharp kink.)

There's a version of the Wilderness with plastic loops rather than metal; very convenient for those of us who fly a lot.

It can be found cheaper on the net; I don't remember where I got it.

Alright rucker, it's been over 30 hours now, what did you decide to buy? You can't leave us all hanging on the final decision.

Gould & Goodrich Shooters Belt in 1.5" I've been using this belt for 3+ years for everyday carry and they're stiff, cheap, and last a long time.

Streichers carries the 1.25" one in stock so you can see what it's like. They'll order the 1.5" version for you, or you can find it online. Best thing is it's relatively cheap for a dedicated gun belt, shopping around will net you these for around $40.
