An amateur review on a pretty impressive (IMHO) little holster
In a PREVIOUS THREAD It was recommended that I try a Remora holster for my new snub nosed revolver. I did a little research, and they looked interesting. I didn't really want to drop $30 on the website and wait a couple weeks on a whim though, so I filed it away.
Fast forward a couple days..... I found myself in Bill's Gun Shop.... again...... and saw that they stocked the Remora holsters, for the same price as the Remora website I was able to get one out of the package and get a hands on look at this thing, and decided to give one a go. They didn't have the size needed for the snubby, but they did have one for my Wife's Kahr CW45, and she has been looking for other carry options. I figured for $25 it couldn't hurt to try.
The Good.....
This thing is really quite versatile. It's a pretty simple design, you put it between your undies and your pants, button up your trousers and go about your day. No belt needed, and it stays in place. This means that the Wife can wear a skirt with this thing, and comfortably conceal.
You can adjust most aspects of your carry. Placement, Cant and Passive Retention. Belt loops are no longer something to contend with when trying to get the perfect holster placement.
You can remove the holster without even loosening your belt. Grab the whole deal and pull, and it pops out gun and all. Easy Peasy.
This thing doesn't move throughout the day. I was worried that it would ride around with normal activity, but after a day of walking, sitting, standing and getting in and out of the car, the gun and the holster were in exactly the same spot I put them in the morning.
It is really easy to draw from.
It adds no thickness to the firearm, so it conceals really really well. This model also "fits" the snubby, (I will be ordering the correct size however) and when it's concealed it disappears.
The Bad.....
There is no way to secure it to a belt. Even though this thing stays put, when it comes time to take the "Deuce" in a public restroom, there will need to be some consideration made to your firearm and what to do with it.
It isn't tuckable. Try to tuck in around this thing, and you have as much chance of pulling the holster out of your pants when trying to draw as you do just revealing the holster. It is REALLY grippy.
There isn't any retention. This really isn't a concern for me, since the gun is held pretty well in place by the tension of the pants and belt, but for those of you where the lack of active retention is a deal breaker, it isn't there.
It is virtually impossible to re-holster without taking the holster out of your pants, and repositioning the entire assembly. In practical application, this isn't an issue. If I ever had to use my gun for self defence, re-holstering would be pretty far down on my list of priorities. For some it's a bit higher up, and this holster wouldn't be for them. They do, however, have a Stiff Mouth option, which apparently allows for easy reholstering, but I didn't buy that model and can't comment on it.
The verdict.....
All in all, I'm really impressed with this little guy, and will definitely be buying a couple for my smaller carry guns. It's also nice to know that my Wife's carry wardrobe options just increased by a large margin since she no longer needs to rely on a belt as a carry accessory. And at a $25 price point, they are on the low end of the "usable" holster cost scale. Add in the "Made in USA" tag and lifetime warranty, it's almost a no lose deal.
