I like the Becker #7 Combat Utility for a fairly inexpensive, tough knife

I have two that I regularly use.

Mad Dog Pygmy ATAK

(I did not pay the listed price)

Dan Winkler II Belt Knife

I have some various cold steel and SOG knives, but I prefer the Winkler or Mad Dog

If I was to buy a fixed blade, today ... it'd be this one ...

I also really like the Bark River SOCOM's ... but I don't think they make 'em no more ... anyhow, they're more fer lookin' at. ;)

Big Show this weekend at the Colliseum ... I'd go check it out ... bought a custom knife from a guy there several years ago ... it's not a very good one ... but there's others!

Yeah that's what you'll keep wanting to ask yourself... It keeps going downhill from there.

haven't pulled the trigger on it... but I have been considering an Ontario RAT-7 or RTAK 2.

I've got two "big" knives I really like for utility use: a RAT-5 and a Cold Steel SRK. I love them both!

I am also a big fan of my CRKT Hissatsu as a fighting knife.

I'd buy the Leatherneck in a minute, I like the KBar design and I like Cold Steel's stuff.

My primary is a decades old Gerber TAC II that has served me well , however it's got a lot of sentimental value so I rarely use it anymore and it's not really designed for general purpose use.

So a few years ago I picked up a Cold Steel GI Tanto on a whim because I wanted a bigger knock-around knife - it was very inexpensive but had a thick, heavy full-tang 1055 high carbon steel blade. For under $25 I didn't expect much, but have been mighty impressed with it for the price. Maybe someday I'll be able to afford/justify a better made LMF or Becker 7 to be my beater knife ... sigh ...

http://www.coldsteel.com/gitanto.html I like the new kydex sheath in the link, mine came with a crappier (older) kydex reinforced nylon sheath.

I've been very happy with my Benchmade Nimravus, which I got somewhere around ten years ago. It's not a particularly big fixed blade knife, but not small, either. Lots of blade and handle options, too.

If you get a Kabar, get the D2 one. It's well worth the extra money. D2 is one hell of a tough tool steel and the sole reason I got a Kabar when I found out they offered it.

I don't have a razor sharp edge on mine, but I've opened cans with it and had no effect on the sharpness (the black paint on the blade didn't fare so well - but I got it to use, not look at).

Cold Steel used to be made by Buck according to Pete, and I have a SRK of that vintage that will always live in my primary vehicle. Current SOG's are of questionable quality since they've gone chinese. I have some older ones that are seki japan made that will never be sold.

They say this is one of the absolute best bang for the buck knives out there. Even though it doesn't look "WICKED" or AWESOME", it's extremely functional and has beat many knives in head to head tests. (including the Kabar, due to the KaBar's weak tang).
