I wonder if they have a ball detent to hold it so it doesn't bump open easily?

A magnet or latch would be pretty easy to incorporate. I'm going to keep that in mind if I ever need to redo the drywall in a room.

You have the wrong idea, it's not secure in any fashion. I said it would be a cool compliment to a safe. It would be something to have in addition to a safe.

Doing some more reading, it appears that mirror on the slides is a bundle they sell. The manufacturers advocate buying just the insert and brewing up your own way of hiding the panel. They even advocate using arduino to control a remotely opening door, which is pretty badass.

I think what jdege is getting at is that a pro thief is probably going to look for a wall safe right after ransacking the cupboards for extra coffee cans of cash.

Another possibility is that a pro wouldn't even bother with a residential security container (consumer grade safe), because they'd perceive the contents not worth the trouble - people with nice guns spend money to secure them.

A doped out smash-n-grabber might never discover it. A relative or friend might only move to looking for such a spot after not finding the item they were after elsewhere.
