I don't like the Inforce APL

Postby SleepingJake on Wed Nov 13, 2013 12:02 pm

Well, that's not entirely true, I want to love this light but it just has one fatal flaw for me- its switch. I find that my thumb rests on the top corner of the switch like a paddle actuated light but I'm not able to repetitively activate the switch with 100% accuracy. Even when I drop my finger to the center of the paddle it's very uncomfortable for me to actuate the switch. You could suggest activating the APL with your trigger finger which works but I don't feel comfortable pushing a button in that slants into the trigger guard because of the increased chance of a ND. Even then I prefer to use my support hand to activate the light.

So what now? I just got an email yesterday saying that my Bravo Concealment DOS-L is in production (for the APL). After seeing all the praise that this little WML gets am I the only person who dislikes the switch on it?

The main complaint I hear about the APL is actually light NDs. People inadvertently activating the light while drawing because of the constant-on activation only requiring a single tap, and the design of the switch. The solution is ultimately training. Inforce makes a good light. I think their lights are over-hyped, but they're good quality nonetheless. Your best option is to get the holster and spend some time with dry draws and practice activation. I think that will make things a lot easier and more fluid.

But to answer your question, no, you're not the only one who doesn't like the switch. I'm not a fan of the activation switch either. It's Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors. Not everything works for every person. I won't trash the light because I don't like the switch. However, it's not a light I generally recommend when people and officers ask me for opinions.

If you can return everything and you want to do that, then do it and get a different WML. If you can't, I would recommend spending some time with it before passing judgement. It may turn out that you like it after you spend some time with it. It is definitely more compact than a Surefire X300 or Streamlight TLR-1.

Everything ended up working out and I returned it for an X300 Ultra, I also have a DG switch on it. Is it nearly as comfortable as the APL, hell no. It's comforting knowing that in a body alarm reaction I'm not going to remember how the switch presses in and how long to press for what duration-just squeeze.

I've been running an X300U w/ DG Switch for a while on my duty rig. Absolutely love the convenience and power of it. Good setup to use.
