Steel targets

Postby LumberZach on Mon Jul 23, 2018 10:15 am

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone store their steel targets outside? I generally like to keep everything stored inside, but I have a yard big enough to shoot in now. It is very convenient to keep the steel set up, and just shoot when I have a few spare minutes here and there.

Steel is a little bit of an investment, but I can’t imagine ar500 pitting very easily from the weather. What’s everyone’s experience?

Not going to pit from weather. Barely pits from roufus rounds.

PAINT IT.

Besides new paint makes it easier to see new hit,

I store all my steel targets outside all winter long. Been doing it for years now. Never seen a problem. My targets are usually painted too.

Don't listen to OldmanFCSA. He can't hit them whether they are painted or not :gun:

Seriously, I believe he has left one of mine out behind his house for over a year, and I don't think it's been affected. It was painted before it went to his place, and knowing how he shoots his Beretta 92, it's still in PRISTINE Condition :rotf:

Mine are left outside year round. I try to keep them painted.

A 50 at 50 yards penetrates your targets just fine, including your new AR-500 target. Now I have a proper excuse = my 40 cal projectile from my Beretta pistol must have gone thru the 50 hole each time.

The 2" target has ragged edges all around it. When done on outside I will shoot a 50 hole thru it, paint it, and return it to you painted as a wall-hanger flower.
