'06 Trijicon sight getting pretty dim?

Postby yukonjasper on Tue May 26, 2009 6:34 pm

Is it possible that the Trijicon front dot on my g36 could be running out of energy? The website says they should last 12 years. I assume that this would be a warranty replacement, but what a hassle.

Makes me wonder if I shouldn't look to some other solution. :?:

Is there any other solution than sending the slide in to them for replacement?

I called Trijicon a couple of months ago about an expensive sight that had died. After being transferred to a number of different folks, I was told that, "Trijicon does not handle customer service." What the hey? I threw a $450 piece of optics into the trash...

Give Streichers a call and see if they have any advise. They sell Trijicon and they may be able to make something happen.

So, I finally get around to packaging up my slide and sending the whole works into Trijicon a couple of weeks ago. Insured shipping costs me about $13. I get a call from the cust service rep and he informs me that the sight is about as bright as it should be in its life cycle. That is hard to believe as it was barely visible. Well, not being in too much of a position to argue, after all I'm defintely no expert on Tritium, he convices me to spend $18 to put a new lamp in.

I must say, the guy was as nice as can be and I don't have any issue with the way he handled the call except that I feel like they sort of buffaloed me a bit on how bright that sight should be at this point in its life. The price to replace the lamp didn't seem too off the charts, so that's why I gave in, but I'm still not feeling great about it. Seems like they played the "just tell him it's normal" card and if I didn't pitch too much of a fit, then they don't have to replace on warranty.

For future reference, is there any way to determine how bright the sight should be at a point in its life span? Is there a website that can give some sort of visual reference? I assume that I'll be not happy with the brightness in another 2.5-3 years and be in the same boat once again.

I dont know much bout anything but if a company warants something for 12 years they sure as shat better not come looking for money from me in those 12 years, also +1 on the Streichers suggestion.

I don't see the huge issue. Trijicon doesn't claim that it will be as bright in year 11 as it is on day one. Tritium gets duller with time. If they say that is at the expected/normal level of brightness for its age, then it's not a warranty issue since nothing is wrong.

The customer service rep offered a solution, replacing the lamp to make it brighter, for a very reasonable cost. No problem there asking for money.

I don't totally dissagree with you, but I would expect a product with a 12 year warranty to retain its integrity much longer than what I experienced. I'm no expert, but that sight was dim and for being an '06, that surprised me. I guess I could have let it go dark and had a warranty replacement, but I also need it to function and couldn't afford to wait 2 more years with a nearly invisible sight just to prove a point.

It's a moot point now, as the relamped slide is on its way back by now. I guess I'll have to take note of the regression that this one goes through.
