Need Good Club...errrrr, Walking Stick

Don't know if this is exactly an "accessory" but...my wife and I have been attacked by loose neighborhood dogs on several occasions while walking in our neighborhood, the most recent incident just several weeks ago. Now she has taken up walking in the morning alone before daylight, but she is admittedly very nervous about encountering one or more of the dogs while walking in the dark. She would like a solid club, errrr, walking stick. It would need to be solid construction, perhaps with a point , and yet light enough for a small woman to carry, and serve dual purpose like a walking staff. Anyone know anything practical we might look at for her? It might also serve us when we walk together, so that I don't end up shooting one of the dogs as it attacks and go to jail--you know, a slightly less than lethal solution (but only slightly!). If you have good suggestions of such a thing, please let us know! Thanks.

Get some pepper spray or make your own of ammonia and water and use a spray bottle to dose it out.

WE used to have a neighbor with a Dalmatian that was overly aggressive/protective. two good shots of pepper spray really got his attention,

http://www.canemasters.com has some canes. The prices on their fancy ones will stop your heart, but a basic one is about $30 and a raw stock (unfinished for DIY'er! one is $25. I looked over some of the canes at the Bil's GS show. These are stout babies! Not your normal cane!
