Looking for a good belt holster

Postby FirearmFan on Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:23 pm

Alright so I just purchased a Sig P229R and I'm looking to get a holster for it. I've pretty much decided on trying out a OWB belt holster. I don't have much experience in that department as I typically use IWB holsters for my pistols and the few OWB holsters I have are paddle holsters that I use for competition/steel shoots and the like. The paddle holsters I have are nice but they keep the gun too far away from my body. I want to try concealed carry with an OWB holster and with my current paddles it's not really a viable option. I found a few prospects online but I'm just wondering what you guys like to use. My biggest barrier is that I don't really want to spend a ton of money on it. Yeah I know that you get what you pay for and I'm not looking for something super cheap but I can't justify spending $200 on a holster. I'm looking for under $100 and actually somewhere closer to $60 or cheaper would be even better. My initial criteria is black, leather, open top, sticks close to the body, and something that rides a little higher or conceals well would be nice. Again I have a few in mind but I'm looking for reccomendations based on personal experiences. Thanks

I was looking at those, The Slide, I think it was called. That is one of my options so far. I've handled them at a gun show at the fairgrounds and they seemed nice.

For my sig I have a brown The Slide from SRIGS & a black Dillon Leather by Mitch Rosen - I like them both.

Which one I choose depends on the color of the clothes my wife picks out for me in the morning!

Best kydex holster I have found. Enough so to conceal a Beretta 92FS

The only thing I have added to the holster is moleskin on the skin side.

Laredo Defender I like the snaps, Its a little more money but I like the Alessi CQC also.
The Eagle Defender for a slide and just noticed something they call the Thunderbird.
I like K&Gs quality there turn around time has been getting longer and longer 6mths on my last order but not as bad as Alessi 1yr. Alessi uses a slightly thinner leather but it is a little higher quality then K&Gs leather which makes it thinner but as good or better in wear and support.
One of these days I am going to try out that holster farmerj suggested.

Just looked at K&Gs website again. Looks like 8-10 week turn around now but they are working off from a monthly quota only takeing as many orders as they can fill in a months time.

Comp-Tac is a great company. One of my paddle holsters is a comp tac for my P2000. Plus they send you candy with your holster. But I think I'm looking for a leather holster at this time.

I have several models for several guns which are from Srigs at http://www.sideguardholsters.com. For the wait time and the price, they're very nice, comfortable, and functional.

There's also Tucker gunleather and The answer (the man behind the idea that comp-tac and cross breed copied)

Vlad also has shlief leatherworks. He makes some very functional holsters.

And then, there's artistry: http://www.taurisholsters.com/

I make a few for your P229R.

My CCP Concealed Carry Pancake is a mid rise OWB that holds nice and tight to the body.

My HRO High Ride OWB also conceals very well as it rides higher up.
