Holster help

Postby chet_long on Mon Apr 25, 2011 1:34 am

Sorry if I am beating the proverbial dead horse with this question/questions, but here it goes. What should I be taking into consideration when I am holster shopping? Obviously comfort and weapon security are a major concern. I should mention I am interested in an OWB and it will be for carry purposes. Thanks in advance for any input.

Another vote for Blackhawk CQC, or get Srigs to make one like it.

Bianchi CarryLok. Leather Holster that molds to the body and doesn't stick out nearly as much as a CQC. And what have you got for a belt? It's as important if not more so on a carry rig.

Agreed on both counts. The Blackhawk sticks out way too far for me to use them for anything beyond open carry.

Your belt is crucial. Buy a proper gun belt...the best holster in the world won't hold snug to your body without one.

No, not that guy. Or that other one either.

Why set on OWB? I used to think that the IWB holsters were junk until I tried some quality made ones. Now I find them at least as comfortable as my OWBs, and substantially more concealable....... as well as being just as accessible.

Plus, I can now easily conceal a full sized 1911 or mid sized revolver with nothing more than a T-shirt. This makes summer carry much more comfortable.

That being said, Srigs makes a full line of both IWB and OWB holsters that are local, economical, and as good or better than any of the huge name producers. I would check them out.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

I either need to loose weight or get bigger pants for the IWB. I use a Blackhawk Serpa.

Pez - I think you hit on a good point. if you IWB, you have to make sure you have room to fit the holster/gun for it to be comfortable. Nothing feels right when your pants are too tight. You might find that buying trousers a size larger than normal might have to be your solution. Its never a bad idea to shed al little weight either.

I've been exclusively IWB, but seeing some suggestions here, I may check out an OWB option.

I like the Alessi CQC, Similiar holsters would be the Srigs double snap or K&D Laredo Defender
