FF had 20 boxes of .45ACP recently, gonow now I'm sure. Buddy of mine called me and said he saw some there, in Apple Valley I think it was? Maybe the ammo tide is changing, or maybe the hoarders somehow missed that stash.

That is mind boggling, and I am not even sure how that is possible. Not saying it isn't, it's just I cant wrap my head around it. If my math is right, that is just shy of 1200 rounds per minute, per machine.

It sounds like a lot, and it really is, from a pure round count point of view, but when you look at it this way it isn't all that much...

10,000,000 rounds
divided by (roughly) 500 to package into typical bulk pack size
equals 20000 bulk packs

That gives 400 bulk packs per state per day. I'd say in many states there are at least 100 stores that sell .22LR in bulk packs (aren't there something like 4000+ WalMart stores alone?). Some more, some fewer, but roughly close. That means there is, on rough average, four bulk pack of .22LR per store per day available from this manufacturer. Given the frenzy of late it doesn't seem like 4 boxes per day would last long.

The bigger question is: Where is this all going? I cannot believe that people are using the .22 ammo at the rate it is being purchased. It must be mostly getting stockpiled. Are there really THAT many people that feel they need thousands and thousands of rounds of .22 on hand? My feeling is that out of all gun owners, it would be a minority of them that would tend to accumulate that much for their own future use. If I had to guess, I'd say a much smaller quantity of people are hoarding it on financial speculation that someday it will turn into a great investment for them. It's their right, but I wish they would stop.

Here's my logic and reasoning.......

I had 25,000 of .22LR, I'm down to 15,500, have another 5,250 on back-order since January 2013, and I plan on ordering another 10,000-25,000 rounds once prices drop and it becomes more readily available. I prefer to buy in bulk for times like these, for future use, and if the SHTF ever, bartering it if need be. I honestly feel low at the amount I do have for each caliber. I'd like to have 50,000 of .22LR and at least 10,000-25,000 of .45ACP just because I hate having to always hunt for it or get low on it. (Next time I buy, probably will get 5,000 .45ACP) I'm lazy because like buying in bulk. Now I could have sold it all off or a good part of it for profit, but I'd rather have the ammo. I know that even my numbers are small potatoes compared to what some people on here have. and we all get our ammo for different reasons (other than to shoot it of course, we all share in that I think, even the profiteers must shoot some of it they buy.)

What I want to know is.. how can I get onto the range Federal has and shoot a bunch of their ammo for testing purposes? I hear they have people who's job it is to test ammo. Not sure if that's their sole job or not, but I'm sure it gets boring. I'd love to get bored doing that while working on my marksmanship.
