Anybody have extra 10/22 plug screws?

Postby BWinger on Sat Jul 02, 2011 10:33 pm

You know, the 4 set screws that go on the top of the receiver to plug the scope base holes. The official name, according to Ruger's site is: Ruger Receiver Plug Screw. $2 a set, but they're backordered and I really don't want to pay shipping on just screws.

Long story shortened: I picked up a cheap scope to see if I would prefer it to irons. I didn't and not because it gave me issues. So back to open sights, however I lost the original plugs.

Anybody have some extras (I need all 4) or know where I might pick them up on the cheap? Something at the hardware store perhaps?

The good news is that I finally got to shoot my dad's single six and I love my new blackhawk .357! :D

Thanks.

If no one can help you here, I would call up local gunsmiths and see if they have any in stock. Smaller proprietary screws & parts for handguns can be a @#$% to find.

Could also get something like this: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=792/ ... _SCREW_KIT

I think those are 6-48 thread pitch, which means you won't find them at any hardward store. Not sure whether fastenall might have such, but by the time you'd buy the bulk box of them if they had them, you'd be better to order from midway or brownells and just be done with it. Find some other items to also order for the gun to make up for the shipping. For example, if you haven't yet gotten one, order a take-down screw that has the allen head so you don't scratch up that pretty stock. Get a VQ extractor and some extra mags as well and you'll easily hit the mark for the cheapest shipping option. Parts will be here middle of next week.

Only other option would be to post your request over at rimfirecentral. Guys that have put scopes on their guns will often send to another 10/22 owner the plug screws for free. That is still going to take a few days of mailing though.

I'm not in a huge hurry, I just didn't want to pay shipping on a $2 part. I'll try asking around at some of the shops and if that fails I'll have to find a few more items I need and put in an order.

Thanks guys.

I'd go with the gunsmith idea. I was in a similar situation with a Mossberg 500. Stopped in at Joe's and the gunsmith pulled out a coffee can full of them, fished out three or four different sets and said one of them should fit. N/C Doesn't get much easier than that. :D
