Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster...amazing

Postby mrokern on Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:54 pm

It's been a couple of weeks of carry nirvana for me. First was my M&P 9, which is simply the best feeling gun (to me) I've ever owned. That led me to look around and research how I could make that full-size pistol my EDC.

It ended up with me deciding between Milt Sparks, Raven Concealment, or Comp-Tac. Raven's lead times are just entirely unacceptable to me, so they were out. Milt Sparks seemed OK, but after reading reviews of the Comp-Tac (including raving praise for their customer service), I hit their site. I decided to plunk for the MTAC, but ended up with a question over fit. I called them up, and got an extremely friendly and helpful woman on the phone who not only answered my questions, but told me that the brown MTAC holster was actually on sale via a page I hadn't even seen. As it's an IWB, color didn't matter a bit to me. $83 and change including shipping later, and my order was placed.

This was last Wednesday.

Thursday morning, I get an email that my order has entered production.

Friday afternoon, I get an email that my holster is done.

Later Friday afternoon, I get an email saying my order has shipped via Priority Mail with a tracking number.

I have my holster in hand as I write this, 5 days after I called them.

Quality looks to be absolutely stellar. Great stitching on the leather, kydex is shaped perfectly, gun retention is perfect. And the best part...I can now conceal a full size M&P under just an untucked shirt. My wife couldn't even spot it, and she was specifically looking for it.

5 days. This blows my mind.

ETA - Updated to $83 and change. My memory failed. It was $83.69. Didn't want to lead anyone astray by 53 cents.

I carry a 4" Springfield 1911 in one. These are most comfortable.

Just bought one for my SR9C -and a second body for my XD(m) 3.8" 40. Haven't worn it yet but it is nice quality and decently priced.

I bought it thru unholstered.com - my favorite gun stuff place.

I own a number of their products and will buy more. I'd still like to try a Side Guard holster as well... :)

I carry my G21SF in an MTAC and have since I bought the gun. If I carry my G17 IWB its in a CTAC that I've had since before the MTACs came out. Will always recommend Srigs for OWB and quick on/off stuff. But for carrying heavy metal IWB it's Comp-Tac.

I have two of these and really love them.

One thing to watch for - the high-side flap that goes between your body and the gun can become "floppy" and will sometimes block your path while re-hostering and slow you down. It's not a dealbreaker, just something to be aware of.

I could see that happening. I'm not too concerned, as my IWB is probably the least likely holster for me to have to re-holster in a hurry. ;)

Carry my full size sr9 in one. A recommendation to you is to set your pretension and belt clips to where you want and apply a small amount of loc-tite to the threads. My buddy recommended this to me and I didn't listen. One of the screws fell out for the belt clip and I had to order a new one. Otherwise an awesome holster

I ordered the Glock slide model last Tuesday, after business hours. They said when I ordered it that production time was currently 3 days. Got an e-mail Wednesday morning that it was going into production, and another e-mail on Thursday that it had been shipped. It arrived in the mail Monday. I should note that where I had it sent to does not receive mail deliveries on Saturday, so it potentially could have been here earlier.

Anyway, this is my first day wearing it and I am blown away by the comfort when compared to other IWB models. The best I've tried by far.

So how does the Minotaur MTAC Holster compare to the Crossbreed or KingTuk holster? I have never worn any of these, do have a Crossbreed for class and believe was the first to market this style and most everybody loved them because they were so comfortable. The next I heard of was then Comtac and then Galco making something similar. There is even a company called http://oldfaithfulholsters.com/ that sells this style of holster in kit form.

By looks the Comtac holster seems of better quality than say the Crossbreed, but I am curious if anyone has first hand experience.

I have never tried a Crossbreed, but I own two from Comp-tac.

The biggest difference I see is that the Minotaur has adjustable retention.

The clips are a little different as well. I use "C clips" on mine.
