1911 8rd mags

Postby TacticalGunny on Mon Mar 05, 2012 9:04 pm

Ok I'm going to pool some experience here so I'm not wasting $$ with 1911 mags.

I'm looking for the toughest 8rd mags you can find...I've looked at Wilson and Mec Gar so far

Chip McCormick Power Mags are the toughest, highest quality, and strongest mags that I have found.

Checkmate builds mags for a lot of gun makers. They make the magazaines for the new Ruger SR1911 as well as many others.
Good reviews on a lot of gun forums. My 8 round Ruger mags are very well made and have never given me a problem.

Wilson. I have shot them for years and abused them in training and competition and have had zero problems. For my competition mags I do replace the follower and springs every few years, but just simple cleaning without lube and they run fine.

I use Wilsons. I have heard great things about the Chip McCormicks as well but have never used them personally.

I bought chip mccormick power mags. They are great. I would recommend them.

Mec Gar's is all I shoot. They make many of the OEM springfield mags. I run them in 45 and 9.

Might seem strange, but I buy quite a few off of other forums. For what ever reason a person may list them for sale, I ask a few questions about the rear weld and body appearance. No matter what others may say, there are old and older 47D magazines and their construction. I currently have a minimum of 18 used 47D Wilson magazines of older construction, they work great with nothing more than a spring replacement. I am still using them all, as mentioned earlier I have replaced the followers along with the springs as a general preventative maintenance. In the past I have had problems with several magazines that I have used, mainly an unpredictable failure such as a weld break, which has locked up my 1911. The few problems that I have had with the basic Wilson 47D magazines have been because of the lack of me not paying attention to their basic maintenance.
