So I had an idea today...

Postby BemidjiDweller on Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:37 pm

I hate to admit it, but I use one of those departement store leather belts as my carry/every day belt. As many of you know, these kind of belts generally don't work so well as a holster belt. After clinching it tighter and tighter day after day, I finally had an awesome idea. Mosin sling suspenders. I went and grabbed an extra sling I have laying around, and lengthen it out to almost its full length. Looped the stock dog collar on a 5 o'clock belt loop, and crossed it over my shoulder and looped the handguard collar on the 11 o'clock belt loop and shortened the whole thing to fit. I put the front collar on the second hole and the back one on the first. This thing is surprisingly comfortable, and works great. There are only two downsides that I have encountered so far. The first is the leather piece in front is on the wrong side, and the suspenders are only as strong as the belt loops they are attached to.

I only have one extra sling, but I have a feeling that one of my mosins is about to lose theirs.

So what's the reason for not just getting a gun belt?

Short on cash and this is a quick fix. Plus who doesn't want a pair of mosin suspenders?

I know this isn't what ya had in mind for pics, but with only half the suspenders here with me, it'll have to do until tomorrow. Just a sling lengthen, but two make some pretty good pant holder uppers. Actually, just one works pretty well too.

Woah that was a big image, I'll just link instead.

shouldn't the adjustment buckles be in front anyway?

I got a few slings, maybe I should use em to hold up my USPSA belt.

You could do it either way. Let us know how it holds up during activity like that.

Hell, at those prices why not just stop at streichers and pick up a 5.11 belt. My 5.11 operator belt was only $35 IIRC.

Perhaps attache suspender to belt instead of belt loop.

I know of several people who use suspenders on gunbelt to hold the rig up because of health issues which prevent them from cinching up even a good belt.

I use suspenders on a tool belt to take the weight of my hips, Hmmmmmm

They do have the kydex lined leather ones at around the same price.

The Hank's belts are still cheaper ($29 vs $33 or more), and have free shipping. I'll burn 1 1/2 gallons of gas driving to Plymouth, whereas the USPS delivers to my door for free. I think the OP's drive to get to Streicher's might be just a bit farther than mine, too (200+ miles vs ~20).
