I just mounted a new Nikon M-223 4-16x42 BDC600 scope with Burris PEPR mount on my new Ruger SR-556E rifle. I haven't tightened the rings down with a FAT wrench yet - just barely snug right now so no over-torque issues on the tube or anything like that here. When A friend and I performed an initial indoor zero with a bore sight indoors today, we had to adjust the windage ALL the way to the left just to get the sight dead on. There is no adjustment left in that direction at this point. And this is just bore sighted so I may have to go even further left once I get to the range in which case I'm hosed.
I'm not experienced with rifle optics so perhaps some here will have some suggestions.
I assume the issue is either:
1. Bad scope
2. Bad PEPR mount
3. Bad rifle (the rail not assembled straight?)
4. User error - am I missing something obvious here?
I feel dumb asking this, but I assume I should never have to shim a scope mount where it attaches to the rail should I? Other than that I can't imagine how to correct the issue other that returning either the scope, mount or gun for exchange/repair.
