This. I've worked in a capacity where I was trained with a baton, and we were trained that unless you'd be justified using lethal force, think twice before deploying a baton. A poorly placed shot from a baton can break bones or (in the case of squishy bits, like the head) kill.

My department's use of force continuum puts TASER and Pepper Spray before Baton, respectively.

I agree with the two previous posts. Most anyone on the business end of an ASP should be in fear of great bodily harm.
