Fallkniven F1 - I joined the club today

Postby BRL on Fri Sep 18, 2015 10:17 pm

I have a new favorite blade. After much farting around with my distributor, which only increased the anticipation, I received my Fallkniven F1 today. I have a modest selection of fixed blades that really don't see the light of day much. They reside bedside, in my work backpack, scattered around the house for Unitarian purposes or just in a box where I can occasionally pull them out and fondle them.

This one is different. It has a soul. This may take the place of a few folders that I keep in my everyday rotation which primarily consists of a Mini Grip or a Kershaw Blackout. My biggest gripe about either of these is when I reach into my jeans pocket the scrape and dig into my hand. I hung the F1 off my belt and the sheath hung a couple of inches below my pocket opening. I stuffed the end of the sheath inside my pocket, removed the Kershaw and it was a perfect fit. Better yet, I could slide my hand in my pocket with ease. It's very comfortable sitting, standing, driving etc. The plastic sheath will have to be replaced with something more suitable soon.

Oh yeah, it's not dull.

Looks like a Puukko - the traditional knife of Finland.

Beautiful in its simplicity. What kind of steel? These days my Chris Reeve Umnumzaan gets the majority of my pocket time. Let me know if you are ever looking for someone to clean up the edge in it, as I have a Wicked Edge system.

VG10, Swedish design produced in Japan, their flyers carry it in their standard survival kit. Good blade in the 150ish range.

Yes it is beautiful. The balance is excellent as well.

At HRC59, the VG10 holds a nice balance in that it will carry a very nice edge but can still be tuned by mortal men. Especially mortal men like myself that are also sporting a Wicked Edge system :)
