Budget AR sights

Postby Holland&Holland on Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:20 pm

Anybody have a recommendation for decent range toy optics for an AR? Open to Reflex, red dot, Prism type. Not looking for something competition quality or beyond. Just for a range toy for an AR that people I am taking to the range who want to experience an AR can try. Definitely understand you get what you pay for. Looking for a no - low mag optic that won't fall apart and won't break the bank.

I have a sig Romeo 5 on a 9mm AR and I might consider going that route as I have been happy with it for a $120 optic but interested to hear others thoughts and tastes.

I like the Vortex strike fire. Have both the I and II version. The II has a better on off switch location. Post 435 uses one on an AR during DNR- FAS classes, the kids seem to like it and have not destroyed it after 3 or 4 years of classes + range days.

Sign up for Palmetto State Armory's daily deals. They often have a deal for like 179~ish that includes 10 Pmags and like a Holosun or Vortex red dot. Might be going on now even... I think I saw an email with it recently.

Great deal. I have a vortex somewhere that I got that way. No idea where it walked off to though.

I do get those. How is the holosun? They looked interesting but was not sure if they were ok or just Chinese junk.

Holosun makes Primary Arms red dots. PA covers them for life, so they must not be too worried about it.

I have a PA microdot on my 5.56 7.5" pistol. Great budget optics!

That is good to know. I bought a NcStar product once about 8 years ago and never will again.

Yeah, I made that mistake too. It's been boxed up waiting for me to invest another $15 into getting a warranty repair for at least 3 years. That's after sitting in the factory box broken for a good 6 prior.

PSA has the Romeo5 on sale for $120. PSA Romeo5

Don't know if that's a good deal or not.

It is a decent deal. They have been running that special for awhile. It is on the possible list as I have one already and am happy. But, I like variety so just seeing what else people like.

I have a March 1086 on my Service Rifle. I don't think that it meets your criteria of not breaking the bank though. ;)

I snagged a Vortex strike eagle 1-6x24 Opmod (optics planet FDE anodizing and extra crosshairs on the etched reticle) for $225 shipped a few weeks back. That's now on my lightweight 5.56 SHTF rifle.

It'll be interesting to see how the subtensions work out since no one running 5.56/.223 is ever shooting the same weight and barrel length.

Got it off Dvor.com. Worth keeping an eye on if you're looking for kit.

I just snagged a NIB Burris AR-332 pisim sight for $185 on a steal of a deal a few minutes ago. I am thinking that will be awesome for my needs on this build.
