Fleet Farm - Yugo 7.62x39, AES10-B rifle (RPK style)

Saw a couple of items worth checking out at Fleet Farm as ammo and firearm prices scoot skyward:

They are selling the Yugo 1260 round wooden crates of 7.62x39 ammo (brass cased, bercan primed, copper washed lead bullet, non magnetic, mildly corrosive) for $249.99, normally $269.99. Some of the best and most accurate ammo available in the caliber for less than current production steel case/steel jacketed stuff... if you own an AK or SKS you should try this stuff out, split a case with a friend, etc...

I also saw *2* of the RPK style AES10-B rifles in 7.62x39 in stock in Blaine.

" This tack driving RPK style gem is jammed with important features from butt to muzzle, like a laminated Cold War style buttstock, integral carry handle, hammer forged - chrome lined heavy barrel and a folding bipod. The AES10-B accepts all standard AK mags. including drums. Comes with two 40 rd. mags. Barrel: 23.125" with a 1:10 twist, Overall: 41.5", Weight: 10.9 lbs"

... they have, by far, the ugliest wood on any firearm I've ever seen... the buttstock literally looks like slabs of scrap 2x4 carved by a 6 grader and then hit with some old cooking oil mixed with horse piss for a finish. Picking it up felt like hefting a guitar but it actually seemed pretty well put together as milsurp century kit guns go, and you can't beat the badass looking factor. The barrel is much heavier profile than the typical AK variant and I assume significantly more accurate (if you can get past the typical military trigger)... Priced at $539.99 plus tax.

Thanks! I could actually shoot my sks for the first time since my range does not allow magnetic bullets. Now should I share with someone, or just have to myself........ :D

Most excellent ammo indeed, just remember the clean accordingly, as stated above, mildly corrosive.

I'd be interested in splitting a case if someone is interested. Oakdale Fleetfarm is the closest to me.
Proud to be a new dad 4/2011!!

I just picked up a case, but I'd go in on another if you wanna split one up.
I'm about a mile from oakdale fleet farm.

I looked at the RPK today, to round out my romanian collection with my PSL and SAR-1, but it seemed pretty rough. A lot rougher than my other romanian rifles. Since I really wasn't REALLY looking to add one, I passed. Maybe another day, they're neat. I'd prefer to spend a little more on one with nicer wood though.

A few years back a nice set of Russian RPK wood was going for $150. A little sand paper and some oil stain goes a long way on the crappy stock.

One case splits perfectly into 3 x 30 cal ammo-cans, 420 rounds each, with room for a dessicant packet or two once you've broken open the zinc liner inside of the crate. It shoots cleaner than any of the steel cased Russian import stuff I've shot and seems to be more consistent when I do my part (a Norinco SKS isn't exactly a target rifle though).
