Cabela's annual NRA weekend(s) coming up...

Postby Apestoso on Wed Jan 18, 2012 11:09 pm

Hello all,

As you may know, Cabela's and the NRA have an annual "NRA weekend" that usually has some excellent deals. This year the are having two weekends. January 21-22 and February 11-12. Last year they offered 10% off everything in the store to NRA members. There were a couple of exceptions, such as boats and high end electronic gear or something like that, but everything else, I mean all guns, ammo, hunting and fishing gear, you name it, almost everything in the sotre a blanket 10% off for NRA members, even if it was already on sale, clearance, used, new whatever. They just announced the dates, and so far the only details they have given is a $25 Cabela's gift card when you renew your NRA membership for another year. I'm sure there will be other announcements. I hear the same 10% deal as last year is likely to happen again this year. Stay tuned, as I would say their best sale/deals of the year tend to be the NRA weekends, at least from what I've seen.

I'll update if I hear anything else, and if there are any Cabela's employees or anyone out there that has any more info, please share.

Thanks!

If you are looking for a decent beater 12 gauge, the Stevens 350 package with 18.5" "home defense" barrel plus 28" field barrel (takes Winchokes, comes with a modified) is hard to beat for $199 minus 10%.

Dick's sells the same combo with the ghost ring/fiber optic option on the short barrel for $279.

Just got back from Dick's, they pricematched with the Cabelas ad on the Stevens 350 Pump Combo (page 2, bottom left side)... and the "Home Defense" barrel was the Rear ghost ring/front fiber optic version (this gun also comes with a simple bead or rifle sights on the "home defense" barrel combo). I had $100 worth of reward points and a gift card... $100 shotgun baby... bam!

Surprising shotgun for the money, it actually seems well put together if you don't mind function over form, it's a knockoff of the Ithaca 37 with dual action bars, made in China (by Sun which is likely a Norinco subsidiary) for Stevens with a Savage user manual...

Box contains the gun with the 18.5" IC barrel, a 28" bird barrel with modified choke & wrench, user manual, cable lock and a set of earplugs. Warranty is 1 year through Savage... the manual sucks but if you download an Ithaca 37 instruction manual it's the same takedown procedure. It's not a Remington 870 but it's also not $300 with one barrel or one of the Mossberg combos for $350. It's most direct competition is probably the 8-shot Mossberg Maverick that Wal Mart sells for $200 though you don't get the extra barrel or upgraded sights and the finish on the Mossberg is blued vs parkerized.

Yea, coupons are awesome - I had $60 in Dick's rewards certificates and a $40 rebate card when I bought the same combo there so my total out of pocket was $100 for the gun. If you have designs for keeping and using the field barrel you may want to look for the combo with the 18" barrel with bead or rifle sight instead of ghost rings unless you like removing and re-mounting the rear sights and having to re-check your zero with slugs, the rear aperture sight obscures the front bead of the field barrel making it a fairly impractical combo.

You probably don't want to hear that my first shot at 50 yards out of the security 18".5 barrel with a Federal Tru-Ball slug went right through the bullseye earlier today... (there are forum member witnesses!). I managed to string a bunch high after that, the thing kicks like a mule with full powered slugs so I'll probably be looking for a replacement recoil pad but it was totally reliable. Heavier trigger and slide operation than my 870 but it did loosen up a bit after a few boxes of slugs.

i was just checking out Cabela's website to see if they had any updates, such as the 10% off deal they had last year. Anyone heard anything? I've been waiting to make a purchase that will come to about $1k hoping the same 10% deal would happen. Anyway, while looking around the site, I came across this little typo and had to take a screen grab. Really changes what I think they were trying to say!

I wanted to follow up with the deals at the Cabela's NRA weekend. I just returned, and unfortunately they didn't have the same 10% deal as last year. Too bad, as I spent quite a bit today. In fact, the only fairly decent deal I saw was NRA members could buy a case of Federal target load 12 gauge at $49.99. Pretty good price, nothing to get excited about though. There is also of course the renewal deal, where if you renew your NRA membership they give you an active $25 gift card on the spot. I was due for renewal anyway, so why not. I guess I can see that as getting $25 off my purchase for something I would have paid for in the next couple weeks regardless. Oh yeah, and a super awesomely cool, NRA hat (I'll never wear). They also had Herters 9mm at $8.99/box, but it was the steel case. Nasty, dirty stuff, in my experience. Got my SR1911 though! A little gun pr0n for y'all - I couldn't help taking a pic as I unboxed it. Purty little thing!

Gotta love 100% American made Ruger 1911 goodness! The build tolerances and overall aesthetics are amazing! I have yet to get it to the range (tomorrow) but everything I have read, Ruger has produced a 1911 that will rival 1911's that cost hundreds more. Can't wait to get some .45's down range!

I'm assuming you're a Ruger fan, based on your forum name. Do you happen to have one of these? If so, any suggestions regarding ammo or spare mags? I already ordered some mags, but would still appreciate input from an owner.

I own several others. .. which is the only reason I don't own the Ruger. .. waitin' on 4.25, .38 Super, 'er 9mm.

Wilson ETM mags work best in all my guns. Wilson 47D's are a close 2nd.

Never heard of a 1911 that didn't feed 230gr FMJ. .. maybe start with that.
