5.56 Federal Lake City Ammo

Postby Ramoel on Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:32 am

I found this ammo at the Lakeville Fleet Farm this morning. Pretty good deal for $164.99. And it came with a nice new ammo box too!

This is the actual description of the item:
Lake City Ammunition 5.56x45mm NATO 62 Grain XM855 SS109 Penetrator Full Metal Jacket 10 Round Clips in Ammo Can of 420 (14 Boxes of 30)

That's $7.86 per 20 rounds....is that a good deal these days?

I saw that last night. Being new to the 5.56/.223 game, I wasn't sure if it was a good price, so I passed on it. Starting to think maybe I shouldn't have.

That's almost 40 cents a round. I'd check out http://www.ammoseek.com instead.

This is another website for comparing costs. I like the fact that S&H is included in the cost analysis on this site. http://gun-deals.com/ammo
Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.

You'll find that if you use ammoseek, the least expensive Lake City 5.56, 62 grain is 42 cents per round if you buy 1000 and it comes loose in a cardboard box. You have to add shipping to most orders too.

Federal Lake City is the good stuff. This is the same ammo in use over in the "Sandbox" today. At Fleet Farm, after MN State tax, it's 42 cents a round with a new ammo box. Shop around online, hard to beat that price. 5.56 NATO is flying off the shelves since the election.

True...may have to go ahead and grab some....although my rifles tend to prefer Wolf Performance Ammunition.

My IMI was 37.5 cents per piece as M855's, not 109's, too bad its all sold.
And I have found LC bulk packed's quality tobe less than IMI.

BUT availability is key.

I've been just buying the Federal Value packs from Walmart. It's $34.99 per 100....pretty much the least expensive brass around right now.

You can have ss109 and not have m855,

But you can't have m855 and not have ss109

Xm193 is about $75 more per thousand than it was six months ago. This mornings natchez "sale price" was $50 higher than what it was six months ago, not to mention it wasnt even in stock their for most of that time.

Same thing as four yrs ago. Soon we'll see guys "doing us a solid" and selling primers at 50 bucks per thousand "just cause they can spare a few."

Sorry, meant 193 instead of 109.
My mistake.
