Auction of deceased gun smith's tools, and reloading supplie

Postby Mauser98 on Thu Nov 13, 2014 2:55 pm

A gun builder in the Detroit Lakes area passed recently. His stuff is up on an auction site. Couple of days left, and there looks to be a few good deals.

Lots of reamers, head space gages, some powder and primers.

I would be all over this, BUT finances currently prevent it.

If I wasn't in the same po'boy boat as OldmanFCSA, that 31" Krieger 6.5 barrel would be mine.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Auction of deceased gun smith's tools, and reloading supplie

Postby Mauser98 on Wed Dec 03, 2014 12:33 pm

Ended up with a CH4D press and RCBS 304 Dial-a-Grain powder scale.

Anyone have experience with the CH4D model 111 press. I went for it as it's a flush mount press and I'm working on building a range reloading setup, so the flush mount was a plus. It seems like it has nice leverage, and the bushings are still very tight so the carriage operates like glass.

I'll post up some pics tonight.

Here's the press. CH4D Model 111.

I don't remember the trickler stand on the one I used before, but it's a nice feature, and is adjustable in height. The dial turns as smooth as silk.

Downside to the press is the handle. It's lacking any ergonomics. I may have to make a more user friendly handle after I give it a try with some sizing chores.
