You can block people? I can pick my friends? There is a feud?

Like was said people wont read what they don’t want to so getting rid of the ignore option wont solve anything. The “problem” is the people not the software, or the internet or anything else. I don’t see how others ability for whatever reason to not get along as a “problem”. I wouldn’t come here if everyone had the same view. Diversity is a good thing.

A wise and astute observation....

Because someone has a different opinion than you - that does not equate to them "Behaving Badly" or being "wrong"

You know what opinions are like?

Good point. However, hypothetically speeaking, if someone with too much time on his hands comes on like a frustrated former high school debater, out to impress with style, even if there is substance as well, it just may get to the point where it doesn't hurt to miss a few of his brilliant points.

[quote="plblark"]Ace and Brit,
You know you're only highlighting the reason you might have made the ignore list, right? taking shots and pokes without adding significantly to the discussion. However vindicated you might feel for scoring points, whether you're right or wrong, you're only skewing the signal:noise ratio. That ratio affects ALL the users and readers of a thread.

I was giving a repsonse to the question on that i have several peeps on my ignore list and have had for some time. I personally dont care if i am on any ones list or not and i dont want to know.

I would suggest you read the whole thread and see that i gave instruction on how to add people, instead of going on a rant

PBlark...............in case you missed it the first 2 times, I'll post it again.
Blocking too me seems like self imposed censorship.

You can agree, disagree, scroll or flame away, but if you don't see the post at all, are you any wiser? Even when there are disagreements, (cop bashing gets old really, really quickly) it's still a learning opportunity.

Moderated to keep it civil, absolutely. Locked to end a flame war, apart from saving bandwidth, what's gained?

Sorry if it was short and sweet and not some verbose rant in defence of someone else. Ace and I learnt elsewhere  that chatting on PM's can bite you in the bum, so if we can laugh at each other (and certain members the Lake Benton PD) in public, we'll do it!! Problem with it? Big boys can fight their own battles.........if they can read the posts, who designated you the caped crusader? or was that another meeting I missed. :o
No animosity towards you, just your words. 8-)

Your right I stand corrected. One good thing about all of this is now I know who I will do business/recommend with and who I won’t because they are arrogant, and just plain hard to get along with. So in the real world they will be ignored, just not here.

Well, my take on it is that I know who I want to read, who I don't want to read, and who I want to sample a posting to see if this person is going somewhere or blowing smoke. And I know that certain subjects interest me enough so that I will follow a thread and others don't.

Frankly, software solutions won't work for me. Maybe I want to see what outrages someone is up to. Maybe I have that "gawker's" desire to watch the aftermath of an online wreck. If I were predictable in what I do or how I react, software would be just fine. But sometimes I just like seeing what's going on--even if I don't particularly like it.

If, for some reason, someone doesn't like me and puts me on an "ignore" list, well so what? That's their decision and if I should by accident say something profound and wise, they're the poorer for having missed it. I'm sure that I have missed many nuggets of wisdom because I don't have the time the read every posting in every forum. But that's on me--not on some software designer in Santa Clara or New Delhi.

My life is better since I found the "ignore" button.

Please, please don't do away with it.

It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.
