What's with the Auctions lately?

I do agree that it sucks that there are people who show up, post a want ad, and then never talk on here.

I was mildly wondering if a threshold post count should be considered below which the buy and sell ads will not appear nor function for.

Lets say, you have to have 25 posts before you even see the ads. and you have to have say 50 before you can open a thread in the ads. ... Just a humble idea, no pressure, but I do think it might help build confidence.

I have to agree that posting a price and then raising that price because of unexpected interest shouldn't be allowed. If you made a mistake by pricing a gun too low, it really isn't the prospective buyer's fault... its yours

One thing I have noticed with online forums is that there are very few with many users with more than 50-100 posts. I looked quick, and with 626 users here only 125 have more than 50 posts.

While I will admit once someone has posted this many times it does give you a better idea of the interests.

Maybe we could "share the posts"

Those of you with more than 250 posts could give some to the ones with less?

Seriously guys, what does it matter? Some of the equipment that has been posted by "those people" with low post counts has sold really quickly to people that spend a lot of time on the board. I may not personally agree with it, but some people have gotten some pretty good deals as a result. If you impose a minimum post limitation you are going to have people with 25 posts that say "+1" or "I agree" and then they are going to go right back to posting nothing but merchandise.

I propose we have a seperate thread to rate transactions with forum members, and even local stores. This could prove to be a valuable resource both on and off the board. People that do ******* business will be harassed and chased away, and the ones that do good business will stick around.

Auctions, like hammAR pointed out might be a really bad idea, and other practices will be called out for what they are as they are brought up.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

I don't think post counts or rules are needed, you all are making it clear how you feel someone should post something for sale. Or if you have a better argument then I will change my mind...........

I have no problems with people wanting to give us good deals. I propose less rules, the 'auctioneers' should be harassed and verbally abused with no restrictions in language whatsoever.

No I don't, but here is a link to my story - viewtopic.php?f=49&t=5399 Which I am still kinda in the dark about. :?

I know some do not like the idea of a minimum number of posts to sell, but I do know that 1911Forum has a minimum of 45 posts on topics before you can sell. Someone there even monitors, and from the 45 post on, if all you do is sell, they will warn you to be more productive on the forum. I am not say it is right or am I saying it is wrong, just what one forum does.

The one timers that come to post a sale can be a plus, at least for me. I may get a very good deal on something that I may have not otherwise gotten if there was a minimum post limit needed for this to be posted.

Just my thought, I am a visitor here and will let it up to the forum owner to decide what he think is best in his house.

All this bitching and moaning is a good way to get the sale section shut down. If you dont like something great. Who gives a rats ass if you dont like something. Move on. If people act like a jackass everyone has eyes and can see it and wont deal with them and they will either knock of the BS or leave. For Christ sake do we need rules for everything. If you are not involved in a sale consider shutting your mouth and not caring about it. The mods all have real jobs (except Ttootsie) and dont need to babysit people trying to buy **** here.

What about that nighthawk that was missing the extra 2 on its pricetag in the store over last summer, would i really have got it for $225, because as a prospective buyer, it wasn't my fault, it was yours ;)

So, you only buy from newbies? Do you think people who post here regularly have an integrity problem?

I'll pile on. I responded to the original poster when he had the package still listed at $400. He pm'd me back saying he was lifting the price to $500 because he was getting so much interest and hadn't realized earlier that WASRs were now sought after. I wrote him back that I wasn't going to play the bidding game.

On a related note, about two months ago, a more regular member offered for sale an old rifle. I pm'd him and we talked on the phone thereafter. He said he thought an internal part was broken, leading to some possible failures to feed/eject. I told him that was fine as I was looking forward to another project. I jumped online and found the parts I needed. Didn't order them, but was prepared to. When we talked on the phone, he was a realy nice guy. He told me I was getting the gun so we arranged for a meeting the following Monday morning at a parking lot by his work. During the Sunday night before, he emailed me to say he had had a change in schedule and couldn't meet Monday morning. No big deal and I appreciated that he had given me a heads up before I left for the parking lot meeting. Problem was he never got back to me -- ever. He's been on the board since and I pm'd him, but he never responded. Just flat out ignored me. I'm sure I would have been upset had he pulled out of the deal in an email to me, but at the same time, that would have at least showed he had some respect for the process and the members of this board. I concluded he sold to someone else, whether because someone offered him more money or whatever. Very odd behavior though.

My 2 cents,
Mark

Seems to be sort of a sheity practice to play good honest people against each other, in an established community. Add to that the fact that the post count indicates these people are likely here for no other reason than to sell their stuff, and will, if history is any indicatory, not contribute going forward. On the flip side, if some ignorant wants to sell something underpriced, so be it.

On this site, I'm relatively new I understand, however this is not a national auction site, and therefore I think a little class would be advised. Such is apparent by the members' responses to the recent sale activity. I hope it will work itself out. The classifieds are a big asset, especially as we approach the "chosen-by-someone-but-me one" being put into office. May not be around forever, so I hope things settle out.

All in all, telling somebody one thing, and doing another is grounds for a beatin' where I grew up.
