THE 1st PLACE ENTRY.........


The term “daycare center” was coined by Joel Rosenberg, known on mnguntalk.com and (the now debunked) Twin Cities Carry forum (twincitiescarry.com) as “joelr”. It was used to describe mnguntalk. Descriptions on the exact nature of the term differ but “ttousi” noted in a Jan. 23rd, 2009 post that mnguntalk was “considered somewhat rowdy by some folks” (possibly due to the posts by “hammAR”). But, as they say, there is a "rest of the story".

Joel (“joelr”) was a trainer, author, activist, and owner of the Twin Cities Carry forum. Joel became quite controversial towards the end of between 2007 and 2009, resulting in dissension among TCC forum members.

Between 2007 and 2009, Joel ostracized himself from many people within the MN gun community as a result of his growing controversial style and opinions (even reportedly reading members’ private messages). The mnguntalk site was established in July 2007 by "Rucker" in response.

Shortly after this many members of the Twin Cities Carry forum migrated to mnguntalk.com as a result of what one forum member called Joel’s “antics”. Hostilities grew between many members. Of particular note was Joel’s hostility towards firearms instructors (and, it would appear, competing website traffic). In one post, Joel regarded the success of his post based off “...when I look at the log summaries and run the analysis tool”. This growing hostility towards a competing forum, competing permit-to-carry instructors and a competing Carry textbook appears to have incited additional angst from him. “Cmj685” notes this well in stating, “Ironically (or perhaps not) [other good instructors] are often the ones Joel hates the most--but it couldn't be the competition could it...nah!!!”

Much of the growth of mnguntalk was in response to Joel. Members moved from his site to the mnguntalk site when the TCC forum shut down. In response (after reopening his site) he referred to the mnguntalk site as a “daycare center” – implying their absence from their home as well as their immaturity. This was emphasized by “traveler” - “I am pretty new here myself, but apparently he is responsible for the foundations that support this forum … also the wall studs, the floor joists, the wallboard, the paint and other wallcoverings, along with all of the decorations etc.”

While it is reported that he referred to mnguntalk.com as a “daycare center” in some of his classes the first written statement appears to be when Joel called mnguntalk.com “the day care site” on June 24th, 2008 stating, " If you want to engage in personal attacks on Andrew or me, that's allowed over at the day care site…”

This term appears to have been solidified by the ever-humorous “goalie” (and many others) when he stated in a June 16th, 2009 post “Actually, if his place is anything like it used to be, he is probably referring to the fact that his "children" have to come over here when they need adult supervision. That would make us his site's daycare......”

Eventually the TCC forum shutdown again and the “daycare center” became the permanent home for “his children”.
