I have an actual Windows XP Professional CD with Service Pack 1 on it you can have for free, however, you'll need the key for it.
The one o nthe laptop may work. Realize that most PCs these days come with an OEM version of Windows, which is usually in the form of a restoration partition you make your own CD/DVD set from, or in the case of an older laptop like the one you have, a recovery disk. These disks have the drivers from that OEM for that laptop, therefore, using a Retail version of XP or a version of XP from another OEM *MAY* work, or it may not. Same thing with the key for Windows. The ones I have are from Dell.
I would recommend actually installing Kubuntu 12.04LTS (Linux) instead of Windows XP for a few reasons:
1) Linux is faster than Windows is.
2) Linux is more secure.
3) WXP isn't getting updated anymore and XP is an already 11 year old OS which after April 8th, 2014 wll be complete end-of-life.
4) Many Windows programs run well in WINE, a Linux program for running Windows-based software programs.
5) If you are going to use it to browse the web, email, watch videos, movies, etc, it will work just fine for that. Unless you're going to game on it or need a Windows-specific software program, Linux would be just fine.
If you're interested in either option, Windows or Linux, let me know.
