Rent/borrow a FNP .45?

Postby Doc Harvey on Sun Nov 13, 2011 11:21 am

I recently decided to swap out my .40 cal Sig Sauer P226 for a .45 cal handgun. Rented a Springfield 1911 at Bill's Gun Shop in Robbinsdale and LOVED it. As much as I liked the 1911, I feel that I want to have a greater magazine capacity and am starting to look at the FNP. I did not see any FNP's for rent at BIll's. If anyone knows where I can go to rent one, or if anyone has one and would like to meet up at a local gun range, I'd be happy to foot the bill for the range fee, a couple of targets and a box or two of ammo. I have an SKS (with 20 round TAPCO mag), the above mentioned Sig and a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk. 2 if you're interested in shooting any of those. I f i end up liking the FNP as much as the 1911, I'll be looking to trade the Sig. Thanks!

I was at Bill's Circle Pines last night and I'm 90% sure I saw an FNP-45 in the rental case.

Sure enough! Rented it, fired it....didn't "love" it. Guess I'm in the market for a 1911! Thanks again!

Have you tried an XDM 45? I love my 1911 but maybe an XDM 45 would fit your need.

The Glock 21 is also an option if you want more capacity.

Carry the 1911 and a second mag. Practice reloading.

The .45 cal XDM 3.8 is now available.

That said, I carry a 1911 and a reload. ;)

Long story short, when I went to purchase my gun I was adamant that I wanted a gun with an external hammer (not a striker fired gun) with a metal frame and a large capacity. Now I'm not so sure. The salesman at Bill's was trying to push me towards a Smith & Wesson M&P, and now I kinda wished I had listened to him...or at least rented one before I paid for my Sig. He had nothing but good things to say about the M&P, but I just think that they're so damn ugly (not that aesthetics should have anything to do with it). Not to mention I am completely unfamiliar with any striker fired design. I guess I'm going to have to chalk this one up to "live and learn" and hope that I can either trade out my Sig or learn how to shoot it better.

Dont beat yourself up. I bought an m&p 9 pro series 4.25" based on reviews. I couldn't stand it based on two things. First was the trigger, I couldn't get use to it breaking in half and not being solid. Reminded me of the flex in an hk p30 trigger. The other was it auto cocking similar to a glock or 92fs, but I couldnt reliably get it to NOT auto cock with the way I train with my other handguns that don't have this "feature". So out it went.

I'm not saying its a horrible gun, just getting it out there that not everyone loves them. I'm sure a lot of Koolaid drinkers like them just because of Magpul.
