300 savage dies

Postby wasfuzz on Wed Aug 06, 2014 6:15 pm

Does anyone have a set I could borrow or buy cheap? I am trying to help out a old family friend who asked my help in loading his favorite load for him that he can not purchase any more. Truthfully the box of shells I load for him will last the rest of his life. But he is a old family friend who likes to sit around at Deer Camp with the guys.
Thanks

Thanks - I know you can still find them but he wants some 168 gr silver tips, I have the bullets so I just figured I would load them up for him. It will mean more to the old guy if I do that then just go buy him some ammo. Guy has been like a grandfather to many of use at hunting camp.

Both Lee and RCBS list .300 Savage dies on their website for a bit more than $40.

Midway USA has them starting just a bit over $30.

Cabelas has some.

Cool. You gonna take him out shooting then to verify his zero? Might want to load up a couple of boxes. One to shoot and verify zero with and one to hunt with.

This is a cool thing you are doing.

I have been thinking of doing something similar for a member of our hunting camp. He likes to shoot 220 grain pills out of his Remington 7600 .30-06.

They are getting harder and harder to find. I shoot my deer rifles throughout the year. He never shoots until the season and from his results I am not sure if his rifle's point of impact coincides with his scopes point of aim or maybe he needs a bit more trigger time. If I load some 220 grainers up for him in a factory load replicating recipe and then get him out to shoot I can maybe confirm a few things.

At least I already have the dies, powder, and primers. Just need the bullets.

Good Luck.

That is the plan, we all go up Grouse Hunter in the same place and zero our rifles then too. Most times he just shows up to Grouse hunt and does not bring his rifle along. I have asked his "real" great nephew to sneak his rifle along also so we can zero while he is with us then. the old gentleman is in his 80's and has always been there for our group of hunting buddies. Last year one of the group took his rifle and had it refinished and replaced a few worn parts. As I said before this guy is like our own grandfather,
