Food for thought!

Postby John S. on Thu Aug 27, 2009 5:59 am

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week,
which I quote: "If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000
troops
in the Iraq theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of
2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers."

The firearm death rate in Washington , DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same
period. That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and
killed in the US capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws
in the US , than you are in Iraq .

Conclusion: The US should pull out of Washington .

For US soldiers, these numbers don't include Iraqi Allies, International allies, or Civilian deaths.

We're up to 4300 now... ImageImage

Do you believe everything you read as long as it supports your views? Don't you ever check facts? How about performing simple math to verify figures?

100,000 / 160,000 = .625

.625 x 2,112 = 1,320

That's 1,320 deaths per 100,000 in Iraq (using the provided numbers).

I've seen this one several times before but just dismissed it as more of that internet BS and moved along. Ok, so this time I did like Mac and first looked into the math. It looks like the Iraq number would represent a monthly calculation, while it looks like the DC number is anual. Also, why don't they take into account the Iraqi population as well as anyone else who's there? John, this **** isn't even worth propagating. Try sticking to something that, at least has a chance, of passing the smell test.

Well, you first have to distinguish the "serious ****" from the plain old "****". :D

So far, from the original source in question, the majority of the politically related stuff... has all smelled like ****. Serious or not.

Anything negative against P* BO does not necessarily mean its accurate or true. Some of it, yes. But lets be careful we don't put on the same hypocritic, maniacal, unrational hat as some people on the left. Extremists' careers historically don't tend to last very long. Consider a different tack (pun intended), and your credibility might return.

As said before, by gentlemen more wise and experienced than I...

This forum was/is surely not intended to be a place for you to endlessly post nonsense and b*tch about your feelings of the President*. At some point (again dare I say), this does indeed "make us all look bad" by association.

Not to mention that it is preaching to the choir, which is nothing but boring and tiresome in the end. I hate what the current president stands for as much as anybody, even you mr John S. but come on... Lighten up a little, maybe you should read a book about puppies or something.

Or, for that matter, read any book.

I swear, John must have his basement stuffed with clay tablets containing political jokes from the time of Hammurabi that he deciphers one at a time and substitutes Obama's name into the translations...

John, don't listen to these clowns. Be your own man. I do like to read them say what this forum is for and what should, and shouldn't be posted. Or who has enough clout, what makes us look bad, how everything we do will lead to our rights being taken away, who should and shouldn't be allowed to own firearms.....

Just remember John this interweb is serious **** and needs to be addressed as such.

Yes, yes. Because this particular poster has never delved into those types of discussions. The world-renowned, but rarely seen Justa is above that completely.
