Well I suppose I should add my J&S experiences. I used to work a day per week in Lakeville, so I went there once a month or so on my lunch break just for something to do. Paying more attention to the phone or the regulars who are just telling stories was the norm, as were higher than average prices.

I had good experiences with them buying a Seecamp and a JP trigger kit, but more often than not I left without buying anything because I just didn't have the time to wait them out. Once I sat by the register with some magazines in my hand and my wallet in the other while the employees chatted to some customer about a hunt he had just been on, and when I ran out of time and started walking to the door, one of them called out, "Oh, can I help you?" and I just said I ran out of time and kept going.

Another time just a few months back I came in 20 minutes before the store was about to close and the employee there told me they were closing and I could look around for five minutes. Perhaps he had a tee time or something and wanted to close a bit early.

I don't get down that way much anymore, but when I do I don't even really think to stop in. I'd rather go somewhere that has a better selection and has employees that understand that chatting is secondary to working the register.

When Jeff owned the store, (the J in J and S) it was a good place once you sort of got known. The new owner is an A$$hat and lost me when I went in to look at a gun someone else had given me a heads up on. While I was in there I found a knife of the pattern I carry so I picked that up, it had a price tag of something less than $20 bucks on it. I looked at the gun that I had driven down to see and it had a bulged barrel. it was a 20 gauge beretta auto, and I pointed it out to him. He grabbed the gun, said if you don't want it someone else will take it. I was like "Whoa!!! I was just asking if you had seen that" and he said it was still shootable and the price was firm, I said no thanks. I asked him to ring up the knife and he made some comment about was I going to ask for a discount on that too? and I just said no, and walked out.

It was the owner because I was introduced to him when Jeff was making the sale of the business.

Huh, interesting stories. If I'm ever bored, I might go down there just to screw with the "help."

I will never go to J&S again. Once, I called to get a price on an 870, and the guy said they don't quote prices on the phone... :o

I called the next day and got the price right away. I went in to check out the gun, and it was $50 more than what they quoted me on the phone. When someone eventually took a breather from BSing to help me, I stated the discrepancy, and his response was "What do you want me to do about it?" I said, "Nothing" and walked out.

On top of that, a friend of mine went there with her boyfriend to buy her first handgun. They saw her coming a mile away. She's a small framed girl, and had very limited shooting experienced at that time, and they sold her a Glock 22c model, at full MSRP, promising that the C model makes it feel like a 9mm recoil.
She could barely handle the thing.
DonL looked up serial on Glock, and saw that the gun had been on their shelves for nearly 2 years.
