I thought that the dremel was only for grinding holy hell out of feed ramps........

Go figure.

I considered using a propane torch to burn of the excess but I chickened out at the last second… ;)
I love it when a plan comes together!

I love to make fun of home smiths that bubba their rifles, but I'm sad to admit I've used all the above at various times during my builds/ home smithing.

1. Propane torch (used to heat up front and rear sight blocks makes them much easier to remove, also used to heat treat pin holes on 80% ak receivers).
2. pipe wrench (makes a impromptu bfh).
3. Dremel tool, (poor mans buffer wheel/grinder/polisher).
4. 20 ton press (setting rivets, pressing out barrels/pins).
5. Angry old aircraft mechanic (My father, keeps me from using any of the 4 above in a manner that is truly stupid).

Never attempt to use 1-4 without 5.

Nothing super rare about it, but I recently got a minty, 100% original Remington Rand M1911A1, dating from early 1944. The previous owner bought it from the NRA in 1952 for the outrageous sum of $17.

This is an I.J. Target Sealed 8. Serial #N18119 post WWII 6" barrel
My Grandfather purchased it brand new in 1951 for $12.00. He bought it for shooting small animals around the farm.
He passed away about 5 years ago and it was given to me. His 2 m1's disappeared without me even getting a chance to say I want them.
It isn't worth much but they aren't real common. It was the first hand gun I ever shot and its kind of a nice momento of my childhood

The barrel looks shorter than 16", so it is considered a Class III, correct?

Class III refers to the dealer's license, not the firearm itself. A short barrel is a "Title II" weapon, and only requires the NFA paperwork and tax. The license is only required for importers, manufacturers, and dealers. Since the weapon in questions appears to have both a short barrel and a stock, it would appear to need to be titled.
